    Re: NBA Off Topic

Before filming "NBA on TNT" in front of Staples Center in LA before the Lakers vs. Thunder game on 1/17/2011, Charles Barkley goes back and forth with a homeless man, leaving him with one rule: "If you ain't rich, don't talk".
    Kinda NSFW language?

It sounds good in theory, but teams like the Wizards would probably never get the #1 pick. I know all you have to do is win one game against a particular opponent to advance, but it seems less likely that the "right" team gets the top pick.

EDIT: I didn't know the rich were the only one's with a voice. Classy, Charles. Very classy.

I agree in that the worst team should get the #1 pick, but the NBA is notorious for teams tanking seasons when they know they're out of it. Look at the Heat in '08 when Shawn Marion was suddenly "injured" and they kept Wade out the rest of the year.

i think the bottom 8 teams should be in the playoff for the #1 pick.. 9-14 are fringe playoff teams and shouldn't be in the running for the pick. i don't know to be honest, i like the concept, but the more i think about it the more it seems fatally flawed. sometimes you get teams that just barely miss the playoffs, for whatever reason... and they don't really belong with these horrible teams

Does he not remember his mom raised him in the stix of Alabama?

My personal preference if we'd keep the lotto system is for teams 1-4 have 3 balls in the lotto, 5-9 have 2 balls, and 10-14 have 1 ball. Then truly have a draw for order. Not just "Oh, spot 14...or 3, 2, 1"

The tournament is an awesome idea though. Would thoroughly prevent tanking, near as I could tell.

While it sounds like a good idea, I don't think it would prevent tanking but rather increase it. You would get teams tanking during the regular season then turning it on during the tournament.

You mean a playoff team that intentionally misses the playoffs just so they could win the top pick tournament? Now that would be some corrupt ****... sounds perfect for the NBA

There's always going to be tanking with any system that rewards a bottom-feeder (whether it's through a tournament or lottery). The status quo is working fine.

the top d-league teams should be promoted, and the bottom nba teams should be relegated

A good article about a day in the life of the White Mamba.

"I do become a little bit more aggressive to score, to give the fans what they want," he admits. "But on the other hand, I'm still going to try and play basketball the right way. And this thing is getting blown up to a higher level with SportsCenter playing every one of my buckets. No one wants to be the guy that the White Mamba scores on. So these guys are playing defense on me like it's Game 7 of the NBA Finals. It's something you've got to get used to."
