The thing that cracks me up.... is that literally every single guy/girl is rocking the same pair of shoes in middle schools/high schools across the nation. At what point does the status not mean much? You walk by a group of friends at one part of campus and they're all rocking the same exact shoes... lmao.

I mean everyone wearing Sean John back in the day.. or the same brand [Ecko, South Pole what have you].. OK, at least people could throw on different outfits with different colors and what not...

But with Jordans, the same exact pair of shoes and colorway??? What's cool about that? Lol

I don't understand what status you're trying to portray when all five dudes sitting in your row in class are wearing the same thing.

OK so someone may have the shoes a month or so before everyone else, but eventually Nike is gonna release a good enough amount to where everyone's gonna buy em...

I don't keep up with Jordan releases at all, but these seem to be similar to another pair that came out before.

When u used to see the back in the day, key word USED, it means you had some money. My brother used to get every pair. And he used to have bread. Every color of every pair. It's a status symbol in the hood like he said. I totally understand him. It's really no different than living in a upper class neighborhood and they all have a pool just to say you have them or having really expensive cars.

I'm not defending the actions of any of the people I watched do ridiculous things in the name of a pair of shoes today. However, I'm not sure I agree things are much different now than they were back then (in terms of who wears what). As you mentioned regarding Sean John back in the day but with different outfits, I see the same thing now. I'm not seeing the precise uniformity you speak of. I'm not saying I'm okay with such traits of following and copying what's hot. Rather I'm just saying it's awfully similar to our day.

Further, again perhaps this is splitting hairs, but I don't think Nike eventually opens these shoes up to everyone. It's not a matter of some people getting them a month in advance, it's a matter of getting them, period. And again that's not an excuse for anyone's actions. It's more or less semantics. The people acting this way are directly responsible for their actions. Part of the reason these shoes are so coveted (along with being a style loved by many) is their rarity. Companies pull off this feat with regularity. But it seems the idea here is to create a "Gotta have 'em" panic. And it worked.

I don't understand why Nike just doesn't make enough pairs so that they're not sold out everywhere, if people know they can snag a pair they won't bumrush to get them....

Simple supply and demand, Kash. They send out "limited quantites" so that the price and demand will be high. It really is sad that people still act the stupid over Jordans.

I'm proud to see that I've never owned a pair of Jordans, and if this behavior continues, probably never will.

Nike ALWAYS creates a gotta have em panic when it comes to retros for as long as I. Can remember. They're also notorious for making retailer exclusives on certain colorways as well. This shtick is nothing new for Nike.

I also wondered this. Especially because half of all the shoes they sold, are going to be resold for twice the price, and they're not making any money off of them. It's really confusing to me. But I guess if there were enough for everyone, they couldn't re-retro the already re-retroed shoes in another 5 years

It's been like this for at least a decade, plus Concords are the most famous/popular sneaker of all-time. These sneakers release once a decade basically, a whole new generation will go nuts for them every time they release and enough older people will buy a new pair. There was a similar reaction/situation when the Cool Grey XI's first dropped a decade ago. Everyone that's remotely interested in sneakers expected last night's behavior. Plus even more non-basketball heads are into Jordans than ever. Not making excuses, just saying. And of course the funniest thing is that the quality of the Jordans are doo-doo nowadays yet one eBay auction ended for $706. The hype is stupid and the sheeps are full force for these.

I did pick up my pair safely online and I'm 99% sure I'll be selling them. I've never done it before because it's not worth the effort but if I can get $300+ for these then **** it, they're only sneakers and damn right I'll take a $110 profit for doing absolutely nothing.

I agree whole-heartily that any retro of an OG colorway should only be sold online. It's not worth it to deal with the in-store idiocy. Malls getting torn to pieces, people getting hurt, etc. It's just stupid. Granted it'll screw the mom & pop shops in big cities.

I tried to get mine online. Eastbay crashed as soon as it hit midnight for me haha. But it's ok. Apparently Jordan came out of his house in the low top Concords today so we can look forward to more of this nonsense in a few months when those come out.
