The release day for the Bred XI's was one of the very few days I was happy to be British....

Walked in store, was 2nd in a line of 5 people. Got them with no hassle. Same with last year's Concords.

To each their own obviously. They look like crap to me.

Re: Air Jordans Release Day = Violence

I'm kinda glad now I couldn't afford Jordan's growing up in the 90's in Columbus Ga (what yall know about Jordache!) Jokers was getting robbed for them and starter jackets all the time in my neighborhood, even though I really did want them when I was younger.
The sad part about this is that the violence at the retail locations could easily be stopped by making the shoes purchasable via mail or ordering on the internet only. Conspiracy theory here, I think some people want this violence to happen. And Jordan himself could do more to stop this senseless violence at the retail locations. This is why I will never buy my child a pair of Jordan's, buying Jordan's is the equivalent of buying blood diamonds if you ask me.

It's been a week since release and they've still got them in stores....the UK just don't know a thing about basketball.

This kind of stuff has always been going on, not just recently.

Can someone fill me in on the fascination with Jordan's.

I never owned a pair. Never cared to own a pair. Think they're way overpriced and some of them don't even look that good.

I see dudes taking pics holding up pairs of Jordan's that were around when I was in junior high.

These aren't baseball cards. They're kicks.

Do y'all who buy them actually wear them or are they just collector's items (which I would understand)?

No disrespect. I just don't get it.

20 years ago I got it. Jordan was cool. Everyone wanted to be like him. Fine.
                    But now...?

                    Thanks in advance.

Re: Air Jordans Release Day = Violence

It's hype. Marketing, limited edition, etc. JB started handing out tons of Jordans to celebrities too and this younger generation became obsessed. They wear them because their favorite rapper wears them, not because they loved MJ. The Internet/FB/Instagram doesn't help matters either. Narcissism. Everyone wants to show off.

Older people buy the retros because it's what they grew up with or because they didn't have the money to buy them when the originally came out and now they have the chance.

As for the look of the shoe, I agree that most are ugly. I own 3, 4, 5's and used to own 11's but I sold all of them. The rest are pretty damn ugly to me but to each their own. I own far my more Nikes, New Balances and dress shoes than I do Jordans. I still buy a pair or two a year but I never have camped out or any of that stuff. I'll take a shot online, if I get them then cool, if not it's nothing I'm going to sweat.

It's nostalgia. For me, they bring memories of better days in the NBA, and of course, memories of Michael Jordan.

I could care less about the who's who of Z list celebrity faces who are sporting them, I buy them because it's the era I grew up with and a time when I actually cared about the NBA instead of todays overhyped players and puke on a shoe designs.

I don't wear them down the courts, i'd be pissed if I got them scuffed or marked. Definitely collectors items.

I think everyone's got their reasons. I definitely think there's a large chunk of folks who are buying them just because they're hot in the streets. There's some releases that receive a lot of hype and succeed in convincing people that these shoes are something they need in their lives. The limited quantity, the catchy names (Breds, Wolf Greys, Raptors, True Blues), and a general sense of exclusivity and coolness is enough for many.

In my own regard, I have bought and worn Jordans simply because there's some styles I really like. I'm guessing I've already mentioned it in this thread, but I bought my original pair in '00 (V's) because I wanted a high top answer to my Reebok Questions, which gave me serious ankle issues the year before. Royal III's came out the next year to coincide with MJ's return with the Wizards and the color scheme matched my school colors, so that was my second pair.

From there, I started exploring all the versions of Jordan's I'd missed over the years and often decided that, if I needed a new pair of basketball shoes, I'd consider Jordan's. I've successfully played in tons of Jordans for the past 12 years as a result. I just tend to buy what I like as opposed to always trying to purchase the next hot thing, as those two don't always coincide. For instance, I once had a pair of white and forest green XIV's, and I don't think many people cared about those, but I liked how they looked (and I liked their Ferrari influence).
