LOL that's a good point, I really respect what I've read of Brady's stuff, I've never seen someone point out so many things about basketball players that I've never really thought about.

LMAO I can't imagine the reaction I would get from my friends if they were talking about that flashy dunk by Lebron the other night or Williams 57 point performance, and then I said did you see that pnr defense by Deng, or that hedge by artest, that was ill!! I may do this

Oh and for the topic, There will never be another MJ.

im always wondering why nobody ever wants to see the next kareem or the next bill russell.. i grew up watching jordan and have a very special place in my heart full of hate for him (im a new yorker so nuff said bout why).. hes definitely the greatest player of my generation but as ive gotten older ive become more interested in the players i didnt get to see play all that much and kareem an bill are starting to seem like the two greatest players ever to me.. i mean kareem has 6 titles AND 6 MVPs!! oh an by the way holds the title for most points ever in addition to that hes probably the greatest college player of all time also.. now russell didnt revolutionize the game or set the world on fire with highlights but he won, won, won.. when you have more rings than fingers its kinda hard to make the case that anyone is actually better than you lol

Instead of trying to bff the next so and so how about settle on being the first you? I'd rather watch players aim to be better than predecessors than trying to be them. I'd rather watch a guy try to be better than Larry Bird than try to be the new age version of him.

problem with that is the analysts will spend 5 or 10 years comparing them to their predecessors and the public will also cause thats all theyve heard for 10 years lol... but i feelt he same way you do, my example being kobe, if he hadnt spent his entire career trying to be jordans heir i think i might actually like his game

                  Re: The "Next Jordan"

I believe the NBA machine (assuming the media is a part of it) doesn't want anything to do with MJ these days. Maybe even the less he's mentioned, the better. That may be the reason why you don't hear much about "the next Jordan". I think that MJ doesn't really mean much for youngsters/potential NBA fans, and for older people it's just a reminder of what the NBA will never be again.

And I think that the NBA machine is much more about finding "the next ____" while he's still young and playing. The NBA doesn't wait anymore for a player to play 10 years and then declare on some rookie as his successor. I'm sure we've heard about some next Derrick Rose's, or some next Dwight Howard's. It's never too early to start the hype.

                      Re: The "Next Jordan"

I say this through clenched teeth - But Kobe Bryant has been the only player in the last 10 years even remotely close to being the 'next' Michael Jordan, and even at that, he's miles away from ever being the player Jordan was.

There is just simply no-one in the league since MJ retired that had the skill set, IQ and will to win that Jordan had.

I wish people would put this to bed. They'll never be another Ali, Bruce Lee, Elvis, Babe Ruth etc and they'll most definitely never be another Michael Jordan.

                      Once in a lifetime individuals.

Valid point. I would love to see another Kareem, but that will NEVER happen. Big men coming up now aren't taught skills. As soon as they are 6'5" at 13 years old, they are thrown underneath the basket, and never taught a shot, any ball handling or passing abilities. It's the same reason we'll never see another Jordan. If a kid is super athletic (as Jordan was at a young age), they don't worry about teaching him fundamentals; they teach him a little ball handling, and run isolation plays for him to use his supreme athleticism to get to the rim. He never learns a jump shot, how to finish in traffic, etc. From a young age he can get to the rim uncontested, so he never has to learn these things.

We'll never see another Jordan, Kareem, Pippen, Magic, Bird, Moses, Barkley, Rodman, etc. because of AAU ball.

and for the record, Kareem wasn't better than Jordan. Point totals mean nothing to me. He played SEVERAL more seasons than Jordan. and 6 MVPs to Jordan's 5 again means nothing...Jordan should have had 8. (1990, 1993, & 1997 come to mind as years he was screwed. Of course, I'm sure you could make a case for Kareem being cheated out of a couple, as well).

As far as another Russell? I think there is the potential for someone like him. - call me crazy, but Kenneth Faried comes to mind. He's about the same size, has some super hops, not much offensive game to speak of, but he's an incredible rebounder, with a knack for the ball. If he spends his time devoting himself to being a great defender, he could be a great shot blocker. Ben Wallace was a close replication of Bill Russell. Dwight Howard is an evolutionary version of Russell.

Shabazz Muhammad the best 2-3 guard prospect to come out in years. His jumper is decent (not earth shattering) but hey no one comes out perfect. He has a pretty good post game for his age and scores in his sleep.

Nerlen Noels another great prospect who just needs bulk said he wants to play back to the basket primarily.

It ain't dead yet, stop giving up hope so easily.

                            Na I don't think so.

I like Michael Gilchrist. Really tough player. Who scores easily...

Shabazz Muhammad and Nerlens Noel aren't even in college yet. MKG doesn't score easily what are you talking about, his range is mediocre at best (he has this weird hitch in his jumper) there are a load of college 2s and 3s who score easier than Kidd-Gilchrist. There can't be another ”X Player” it's a stupid media driven rhetoric. Instead just let dudes play give them the recognition they deserve, maybe they'll end up being better than their previous comparisons who knows I'm not a fortune teller.

Kenneth Faried is 6'8", while Russell was 6'10". Russell had it all over Faried. Ben Wallace was good, but he pales in comparison to Russell. He was much better coming from the weak side to block shots than he was in straight up situations. He couldn't pass or take care of the ball. He was an inept offensive player, but he still groused about a lack of touches. Finally, Wallace played much harder at home than he did on the road.

Howard can't hold Russell's jock. He wants to block every shot and he certainly does get his share, but he jumps at any fakes and is mesmerized by the ball. On his blocks, he spikes them out of bounds to prove what a macho man he is. Silly Dwight, Russ used to simply flick his wrist and tap the ball to a C's teammate and they were off to the races. He can't pass or handle, and his free throw shooting makes him shaky in the clutch. Until Howard gets serious about his profession, he'll always come up short.
