Nash. Simply because his skills did not diminish (will they ever? Lol). I take it this is in Jordan's Wiz days. Other than that sick block on Ron Mercer, he shot poorly during his time there IIRC. I'm sure Jordan die-hards will give me hell for this. Nash has more of an effect on the game than Jordan did at that age.

Nash, simply because he has no supporting cast. At all. And Phoenix is still around .500! Jordan had a pretty decent supporting cast in his waning years.I like sportz.

Re: More Effective Player at age 38....
I'm not going to get into an argument about who was more effective at that age, but I will say that Mike's effectiveness from those days are greatly under appreciated.
Yes, he shot an Iverson-esque 41% that year, but 23-5-5 with 1 and a half steals is doing work. Also with the exception of a young Rip Hamilton, I would say that Jordan's squad was marginal at best.
Jordan is being evaluated in comparison to how far he fell off from 1998, not from an analysis of his play in just that season.Jordan Mychal Lemos
@crypticjordan
Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

When Steve Nash Drops 50 come talk to me number 1. Secondly Jordan was one of two players to average 25 5 and 5 going into the All star break in 2002. The Man Was still one of the best players in the League when most players at that age were either retired or were playing like poop. The wizards went from a 19-63 record from the year before to a 37-45 Record in Jordans first season And Jordan only played 60 games and led them to an even .500 record (30-30) while doing so. His supporting cast was Christian Laettner, tyron lue, kwame brown and rip hamilton and they nearly made the playoffs only because of Jordan. Steve Nash at least has a supporting cast, Michael had Richard Hamilton and thats about it. Yet their records will be almost identical once the 60th game is played by the suns. Jordan was also out of the League since 1998. Is this even a question? Jordan Hands down.Last edited by 24; 04-14-2012, 08:34 PM.

Re: More Effective Player at age 38....
Before we end thread...
Dropping 50 is fantastic....but Steve Nash at 38 may very well get his team in the PLAYOFFS.....
He's on the verge of having yet another 50-40-90 season, and is leading the league in assists..
Nash's 2nd best player? Marcin Gortat.....this by no means a "hands down" discussion.Comment

Re: More Effective Player at age 38....
You can still be a great passer at 40. IQ doesn't decrease with age; athleticism, strength and speed - do. It's hard to be a great scorer after the mid 30's. Nash's scoring has declined the past few seasons, but that's ok, offense doesn't get better after a certain age. He's still great to watch. MJ didn't have his superior athletic ability at 38-40, and being away from the game doesn't get you in better shape. I still liked watching him back then, though it's not even close to what Jordan had been as a Bull.
To answer the question - Nash. Is it a fair comparison? In my opinion, no.My Specs:

Marcin Gortat is Averaging Nearly 16 and 10 this season and is a Legitimate presence on both offense and Defense. Michael Jordan had the All time draft bust Kwame Brown as his center. Steve Nash has a much better team than Michael Had on the wizards and it is no contest.

Re: More Effective Player at age 38....
38 year old passing the ball to another player that makes the shot...effective.
38 year old receiving the ball from another player and taking a 20 year old off the dribble and making the shot...more effective.
If you're old enough to know this, Magic Johnson could have been as effective as Nash at age 40 (and even older) because of the passing aspect. You can play at an older age if your focus is passing or maybe even rebounding....
...but putting the ball in the basket at a later age? Much, much tougher, so if you do it, you're more effective. Nash is effective, but Jordan was more effective.
Consider this: you could seriously go to the YMCA and play basketball with a 38 or even 40 year old who gets everyone involved by passing and that's effective. But it's more effective for that 38 year old to light you and your boys up through scoring right?Comment

Re: More Effective Player at age 38....
Nash has kept himself in much better shape in his old age. Jordan was slightly overweight in his dotage. Both guys obviously lost about two steps which means they couldn't penetrate at will and had to make more outside jumpers than they wanted. Jordan still had a deadly arsenal of low post turnarounds.
Nash and MJ were still considerable forces on the basis of their genius level IQs. They could read the ball, defense, and anticipate what was going to happen before it actually did. This is an incredibly rare trait.Comment

Re: More Effective Player at age 38....
Until Nash retires, I will argue that he's one of the 5 most valuable players in the league. Still the best PG in the league offensively in my opinion. I don't even think this is close.NFL: Bills
NBA: Bucks
MLB: Cubs
