    Re: Biggest Draft Bust?

My prediction for this year's draft is that it will be:

    Terrence Jones
    John Henson
    Dion Waiters
    or Andre Drummond.
    NFL: Bills
    NBA: Bucks
    MLB: Cubs
    NCAA: Syracuse
    Soccer: USMNT/DC United

For the people that want to give this to Kwame, go back to that year and tell me who else you would've taken. Battier was a STRONG candidate for the #1 pick that year bc of the lack of college stand outs and the question marks around the high end high school players. I don't think it should be a comparison of players careers over years but considering what was available (for example Bowie vs Jordan). Kwame's draft pretty much sucked. It would've taken a bit of a reach on draft day to get a player that wouldn't be considered somewhat of a bust at the #1 pick that year.

No. IMO, defense, rebounding, length and athleticism. All things that translate well to the NBA that Davis has and/or excels at. A good point by Jay Bilas last night that his offensive game will continue to get better. I think he will be All-Defensive player at least in his rookie season.

With all the comparisons to Kareem, Duncan and KG, anything less than a HOF career he will be a bust in my opinion. Yes, he could win ROY and other awards, but if he doesn't show consistent improvement throughout the season and his career he will be another one of those what could have been players.

That would be your fault for the insane expectations (and saying you got them bc some media guy threw some names out of during the draft is no excuse).

Also comparisons are just that. You pick a person that everybody is familiar with so there's a point of reference that they'd understand. That person is usually a HOF/All star since that's the easiest way to be sure the people have actually seen them play enough to understand the part of their game being compared. It pretty much NEVER means the rookie is expected to be as good as the all star/HOFer, just they have the type of playing style/form on their shot/athleticism/etc the player we can all relate to had.

Did someone actually compare him to Kareem, Hakeem or Duncan?

KG isn't in the same group as those three and isn't the worst comparison IMO.

I understand what you're saying, and I didn't mean to imply that I would consider him a bust just that other people will. The entire time leading up to the draft all I hear is Kareem this, Duncan that and I think those expectations and comparisons are ridiculous it's impossible for him to live up to all of them. I don't want to add his name to this but, like LeBron James and all the comparisons to MJ, many people will not be satisfied with his accomplishments unless he meets or exceeds Jordan, I think it will be the same with Davis, hopefully I wrong.

Those aren't the same comparisons though. Lebron's comparisons are to MJ's "greatness". Anyone comparing Davis to even KG, let alone Hakeem, Kareem, etc. aren't comparing him to their "greatness". They'd be comparing him to the way KG moves very fluently and can guard other positions despite his height. I don't know who the hell compared him to the other two but maybe they feel with his length he could work on Kareem's sky hook... or bc of his growth spurt he may have exceptional footwork like Hakeem. Completely different than comparing his potential career to these guys.

People got up in arms in the past about the comparisons of James to Pippen and Magic bc they ONLY wanted to compare his greatness to MJ and Kobe. It's easy to get them confused but James' game is more comparable to Pippen than MJ, and when you look at WHY that comparison is made you can still say he's more phsyically gifted than Pippen but still make the comparison.

I feel like my rambling made it a bit more confusing but hope you know what I mean.

Yeah it's all strictly style of play and if he lives up to that potential he could have that type of guys career, Davis himself said KG is one of his role models in the NBA because of how they play

Why Beasley? He isn't that bad of a player, and it's not like he doesn't have plenty of time to improve

Austin Rivers will be a major bust.

He's good, but not number 2 overall good. He lacks desire, not to mention defense.
