I think Felton's success last time in NY was based on the fact that it was Pringle's system... however, I would rather pay him low money and run a PG set of Kidd/Felton and a little Shumpert (hopefully comes back healthy) than overpay Linsanity.

Re: NBA Movement Central 2012 (All Transactions 1st Page)
Felton never wanted to be traded away from the Knicks.
He was playing the best ball of his career.
I honestly don't care what he was doing in DEN and POR.
And to say he is not an upgrade is extremely premature because no one knows what Lin is. His body of work is too small.
Off the court..he's a cash cow.
On the court..he's unproven.
I'm not setting aside a guaranteed $25M for a kid that has not shown that he can play up to that contract.
The Knicks have operated like that for years and it appears that they might finally be getting wiser.

Re: NBA Movement Central 2012 (All Transactions 1st Page)
Like I said I still think we match Lin. I just can't believe Dolan loses out on that money.
Regardless, I gotta feeling Kurt Thomas and Cambyman are going to beat the living **** out of Amar'e if he doesn't make a strong effort to play defense. And that I like.
Edit for Howard Beck, something to consider:
Kidd is 39. Lin is unproven over full season. Is it unreasonable to think NY would sign Felton as mere insurance, not as Lin replacement?Last edited by DieHardYankee26; 07-14-2012, 10:50 PM.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

The difference is...I think eventually Lin COULD be good.
But from what we have seen...he's not ready to lead a team to a championship.
He hasn't played a significant game in his entire career worth mentioning. And he has shown that he feels that he comes before the team.
He has played only 25 games as a pro. Why is he not in the Summer League?
Why did he skip out on the Select Team?
The Houston deal is for marketing. He wants to be an international icon and good for him.
But the Knicks and the fanbase want a championship.

But Felton actually plays defense too. Lin doesn't.
Felton can get the ball across halfcourt against pressure. Lin hasn't shown that he can.
Felton's not going to turn the ball over 5 times a game. Lin hasn't shown that he can't.
Even if we say it's a push..wouldn't you go with the cheaper, more proven commodity.

Re: NBA Movement Central 2012 (All Transactions 1st Page)
I guarantee we're still resigning Lin. We're not making all these moves to attempt to win a title and then suddenly decide on a PG situation of Kidd & Felton. No way.
It's been known for a bit that we wanted to try to get some small pieces with the Gadzurc/Jeffries assets. Felton is an insurance policy for Prigioni, not Lin. Kidd is going to be playing a lot of time at the 2 especially until Shump gets back. We still needed one more PG to feel comfortable.
I think Lin is an average PG like everyone else with a brain but he's still going to be better than Felton - who honestly sucks. He's not a catch-n-shoot guy so he's going to fit in our offense when Melo is on the floor. His PnR abilities are below average and even in Pringles' system I did not like his decision making and shot selection. But he's going to be our third, possibly fourth PG and he will bring far more to the table than Dan Gadzuric did and Kurt & Jeffries are basically a wash at this point. I like the move for depth, but again there's no way we're not matching Lin."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: NBA Movement Central 2012 (All Transactions 1st Page)
The Knicks have plenty of veterans at this point. Including a hall of fame pg. I don't think Felton playing in the first round twice is a factor. With the amount of veterans we have, I'm going with potential over a guy like Felton.
I don't think he's put himself ahead of the team. Most players would sit out the select team if they aren't under contract. He's not doing anything different than any other player would, just most players don't get the opportunity to make this much money this early in their career.
If we were a team concerned with preserving cap space, I agree, too much money, he hasn't proved himself. We are a team that can afford to overpay though. If it works out, we may have found our point guard for the next 5+ years. If not, Dolan wasted money. Not the first time, and for once, didn't kill the cap.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

All right, y'all need to brush up on your NBA CBA reading skills. In regards to Lin and Asik, they were given Gilbert Arenas provision contracts.
In theory it works, kind of. The Warriors couldn't match the contract Gilbert Arenas was to be given, they made this provision to help teams keep their Early bird FAs.
The basis of it is that the first year of the contract does not exceed the MLE, therefore allowing teams to match it. For paid salary purposes, the contract structure remains the same for both the Knicks/Bulls/Rockets, for salary cap purposes though the Rockets(or offering team) must be able to pay the mean of the contract, and the mean of the contract value is their cap hit for each year.
As for the actual salary structure, with the four year limit, its split into two contracts essentially. The first two years include a salary of up to the current years MLE, then a standard 4.255% raise in year 2. The remainder of the contract is then split between years 3 and 4 with the 4.255% raise between them.Support Local Sports

Re: NBA Movement Central 2012 (All Transactions 1st Page)
I thought that was always the case? At least with the real hoop guys... the fact he played for the Knicks helped pump his value/hype x100. If he was in Charlotte it would be Lin who and he would be barely be getting over CJ Watson money right now.
Houston offering him that much is desperation to me. They should have pursued Dragic. Failed on that. McHale/Lowry relationship was fixable but Houston said forget it and pretty much gave him away to Toronto. Are they trying to live off the Yao/China hype? I dunno... I always like Morey but what's going on in Houston is baffling to me unless this is part of some huge scheme.
Wait, didn't Brad Miller retire? Isn't that like NO just giving away two picks for absolutely nothing?Comment
