There is no team in the NBA who can guard the front line of the Lakers. End of story.

I'm sure someone will say the Thunder, but Ibaka's defense outside of his shot blocking is largely average to below average, and Perkins can't guard two guys at the same time.

The Heat...I'm not betting on LeBron stopping Pau and lol at Bosh stopping Howard.

Totally agree. It doesn't mean they will win it all, anything happens, but you can't tell me they are not the BEST team heading into the season.

Chemistry won't be an issue, Nash won't let it be an issue.

It wouldn't surprise me if LeBron could do a decent job guarding Howard though you run the risk of foul trouble. However, this is the NBA, so the refs probably wouldn't let LeBron get into foul trouble anyway. Keep Duhwight in front of you and make him resort to that gross hook shot. Let's not forget the unimaginative offense of Brown, he better pray that Nash works his genius and gets this offense running smoothly.

The offense isn't going to run through Duhwight anyway because A) Mike Brown won't do it B) He's the 4th most talented offensive player on the team C) LA isn't built for an inside-out approach. Having some girth in there to try to keep him off the glass is probably more important than someone who can guard him. And besides, Miami's speedy half court rotations would make life tough for Duhwight since he's still robotic as hell in the post on most occasions.

Kobe is the one that I worry about fitting in to this offense now. He's not the player he used to be and Nash is still plenty good to be a pick-n-roll monster with Duhwight and Pau. It's going to switch back and forth between Laker-ball and Kobe-ball IMO.

I certainly don't think they're head and shoulders above Miami or OKC or a shoe-in for anything and I have a major internal struggle with putting any Mike Brown-led team as a favorite to win a title. Something will go wrong along the way and OKC or Miami will beat them.

Lets not act like the Heat's bench was full of 6th men of the year players. They had the luck/were fortunate of clicking at the right time.

And I won't deny it one bit now that he's a Laker.

Why does everyone say Steve Nash is a liability on defense? Alvin Gentry has said numerous times that he's been extremely pleased with Nash's improvement on the defensive end.

Anyway, this makes the Lakers a better team and definitely one of the best in the West. The West is still wide open though if you ask me:

The Nuggets have improved, and another year of added chemistry could do wonders for them.
                      The Clippers are extremely deep.
The Mavericks. Everyone is sleeping on the Mavs but they have pretty much a brand new team and no one really knows what their ceiling is. They can get hot just like they did a few years back and win it all, who knows?
The Spurs will still be right there.
Of course the Thunder are still right there.
Portland hired Stotts as their head coach, so they're doing great...just kidding
There's probably others I'm not thinking of right now.
Warriors may be a legitimate playoff team with Bogut/Lee/Curry/Thompson/Barnes, depending on what the rookies can contribute.

The West is still wide open. Lakers look good on paper but they still have some questions. We will see what happens. All I know is that things never go according to what's written down. The NBA is dynamic and anything can happen. I wouldn't be surprised to see any of those teams I mentioned (minus maybe the Warriors, they aren't there, YET) beat the Lakers in a 7 game series...

Agreed the main reason Howard is a serious offense threat is because he's so much more athletic and physical than most 5's in the league not because he's so much more skilled.

On a side note I don't take athletes behavior off the court too serious. Although Howard's level of selfishness really pushed the envelope, this is the way of most athletes it's just few have the talent to justify it. He wanted his cake(the playoff bonus) and he wanted to then turn around and eat said cake for the Nets(who had no chance of making the playoffs at the time). Looks like he'll settle for L.A. instead. I don't think Howard is flip floppy as much as he's just a selfish athlete trying to maximize he's earning potential.

Damn no wonderDwight wanted the hell out of Orlando they are ran by a bunch of idiots. I mean seriously this is the trade you make for the best big man in the league?? I just don't see how they take this deal over the others that was on the table. But what makes it even worse is that the picks you get are worse than the collection of players. First the picks are protected and to top it off nobody has mentioned that the picks aren't until 2014,2015, and 2017. So they won't even be able to use one of those trash picks for at least two seasons. This is easily looking like the worst franchise player trade ever.

I still can't get over the fact that EVERY pick the Magic got out of this deal (from three playoff teams mind you) are protected. That's like trading LeBron and not getting any sort of unprotected first round pick.
