Re: 92' Dream team vs 2012 USA team

"I absolutely laughed" -- when hearing Bryant's comments that the U.S. squad training in Las Vegas could take Jordan and company.

Jordan said there's "no comparison" which team is better.

"I heard Kobe say we were not athletic," said a smiling Jordan as he sat in a golf cart puffing on his cigar while waiting to tee off. "But we were smart. He said we were too old, but I was 29 and in the prime of my career. Pip (Scottie Pippen) was 26 or 27, (Charles) Barkley was 29, Patrick (Ewing) was 29 and Chris Mullin was 29. Almost everybody was still in their 20s."

"I imagine he's trying to say it to legitimize his own Dream Team," Jordan said. "But to me it's not even a question what team is better."

"For him to make that comparison, it's one of those things where it creates conversation," Jordan said. "I guess we'll never know. I'd like to think that we had 11 Hall of Famers on that team, and whenever they get 11 Hall of Famers, you call and ask me who had the better Dream Team. Remember now, they learned from us. We didn't learn from them."

Agreed MJ, but they didnt learn from you because they had to be redeemed first

The 1992 Dream Team had 11 HOFs, 23 champ rings & the greatest player of all time in Jordan. No chance this years team would take us.

          4.

Kobe, LeBron, Durant, Paul being generous.

Rest, no chance. Different eras too. Guys like Griffin, Harden, Chandler etc. would get absolutely abused.

I have no problem saying that if these two teams could ever somehow play using time travel and advanced cryogenics, that the 92 Dream Team would wash this 2012 roster. Easy. Blowout.

LOL @ 2 people voting for the 2012 squad. Smfh.

Who's refs/rules are we playing with?

If we are playing with '92 rules/refs, than I would favor the '92 Dream Team because it would be alot more posting up/mid-range game (although it would be interesting to see how effective James/Durant/Iggy would be if they could hand check).

Today's rules would make it easier to drive the lane. I would still favor the Dream Team, but it would be really close. Lebron would be very effective at creating for others at the 4 spot. You could obviously make the case for Magic but he would be a real liability defensively.

At the end of games I think it would be basically Stockton/Magic/Jordan/Pippen/Robinson v. Paul/Bryant/Durant/James/Chandler with MJ on Lebron and Magic on Kobe (and vice versa). I like the first lineup better (primarily because I think Jordan would do more damage than Lebron or Kobe will) so I would go with the '92 Dream Team in close games.

Honestly LeBron and maybe Kobe would be the only effective players from the 2012 team, that's assuming Jordan isn't guarding Kobe.. I'd look to see Jordan guarding the 2012 explosive guards and limited playing time for Stockton. I don't think it'd be an absolute massacre but definitely a decent sized win for 92 squad..

I like the post a few posts up mentioning if you would play by the 92 rules or the current rules.. How awesome would it be to see LeBron be able to handcheck on defense..

But in all honesty I don't see that rule being as big of a difference maker as other people do. Everybody always says "it was so much harder to score then cause handcheking" I don't really see that, just because it was allowed doesn't mean it was utilized that much, people didnt just run around with their hands all over you.. Actually when you try to play defense with your hands is when you get off balance and get burned off the dribble.. And yes I grew up watching the 80s/90s and still feel this way..

Also I was a HUGE bulls fan and Jordan Pippen fan, but I don't see Pip being able to guard LeBron as well as everybody else does either.. If Durant wasn't nearly knocked over every time you slightly bump him he could have a decent game against them as well..

LOL, Of course Vince would actually think that the '12 team or the '08 team could beat the dream team. Athleticism is good if you have the skill to go with it but let's not act like the dream team wasn't athletic I mean come on now....

Kobe kinda back tracked and said that he believes this team could beat the Dream Team in ONE game. Which to me isn't too far from the truth. Yeah, the Dream Team is the greatest team ever assembled but the current team ain't 92 Angola nor 92 Croatia. Seven game series, the Dream Team wins in five.

Kobe should have clarified it in his earlier statement but I'd wouldn't expect him to say anything less than what he said. Kobe is the ultimate competitor and if he believes that his team could win, then let him believe it.

Scottie Pippen says that the Dream Team beats this team by 25 points. Nothing shocking. Matter of fact, they probably could beat them by more. But as I stated before, this team ain't Croatia. And this is the same guy who said that Lebron was a better player than Michael Jordan so take it with a grain of salt.

I like the arguments. I'm so sick of watching NBA stars crying to officials because they didn't hear a whistle when they drove to the basket and they had to go thru some D. I don't think any team except the Spurs, Grizzles, or Celtics would have the mental toughness to compete with the 80s/90s tough teams like the Knicks, Sonics, Bulls, or the Jazz. It's not even a matter of talent, it's a matter of not crying to the officials. I miss those days when an NBA game wasn't like watching a chick flick where everyone is crying.

Back to the point though, I would take Jordan/Magic/Bird/Robinson/Barkley over any other 5 players on the same team in history. It would be a massacre just like in '92.

You're talking like teams such as Yugoslavia or Lithuania were pushover teams... Those teams were some of the best if not the best international teams to play in the games

I believe Yugoslavia was a better team than this spanish championship team was the the 08 barely beat
