Spo is no Pop, we know that for sure

He'd never have the gall to sit lebron james, instead he plays him 48 minutes every game as much as he can so he can protect his job

Lets deal with the reality of the situation at hand though, not suppositions and hypotheticals.

Stern was mad and its not because he cares about the fans

Just wondering... I could see the media destroying the Heat for pulling this move had the game been at AT&T. Yes Pop has the precedent, but if you were to say LeBron, Wade, and Bosh were all taking the night off with the reason being: Rest. This would be ugly.
To answer the question, yeah I would defend it. Spoelstra was notorious in the last postseason for playing LeBron 46 minutes a game for the entire playoffs, and I've seen him play 40 minutes a lot of times this season too, so I would be happy for him that he gets some rest. Same for D-Wade and Bosh, although to a lesser extent.

I agree that the media (read: Skip Bayless) would make a big deal out of it. They'd probably say something along the lines of "they're too scared to play the Spurs". Which is obviously wrong...but hey, its the media. It doesn't always make sense.

I honestly do think Pop was trolling Stern and the NBA with this move. He was probably pissed that the Spurs had such a tough road leading up to this game while the Heat got to sit on their asses down in South Beach sipping margaritas for several days.

But what right does the NBA have to tell coaches how to coach? Stern needs to STFU.

          Sounds about right.

I almost want to wonder if whoever made these schedules was trying to set the Spurs up for a loss from the start. I mean, the Spurs played 4 road games in 5 nights and the Heat played 5 road games in 4 nights.

edit: lol, I meant 0 games in 4 nights. But that reads funny so I'll leave it.

Im like most and have no problem with it, I really like Pop..i'm sure im not the only one who can see Pop asked what he thinks about what Stern said and him saying "Stern can go to hell".. or "If he wants to coach this team he can retire now and come do it" lol

That, and he's 27...we did the same w/ Duncan

But yeah, Stern needs to STFU

wait a sec and think about it
you cannot give sanctions to someone if he didn't break any type of rule/commitment
Therefore, in the bargain between TNT-NBA-NBAteams there must be some rule that Pop broke resting 3 top players not injured

Re: San Antonio Spurs to Receive Sanctions for Resting Players

Pop rest them all the time. Esp Timmy. So Stern is mad because it was on NTV? Lol Pop is 1 of the best coaches ever. Why should he care about it being a NTV game? His players are older & have miles on them due to long playoff runs for the last gazillion yrs lol... I think Pop is sending a msg to the schedule makers though, like ok u want to give us this BS schedule & have us play 4 games in 5. Well ima bench the players every1 wants to see. & the best part is David Stern prolly thought it was going to be a blow out. Lol

The average NBA fan isn't going to a game like that to see Spurs stars. They most likely just want to see Lebron and Wade. Stern just looks like a clown right now though because the Spurs almost won that game

We all have to realize the true reasons behind this though. If Pop would have sat those guys out yesterday against Orlando this wouldn't have happened. But to do it tonight yes it will cause some extra tension. Yes Stern is mad for the fans, those who bought tickets are pissed, and all of that but Stern is more pissed about the TV part of things. Trust TNT is not happy with their big Thurday night game missing three healthy all stars. In turn the advertisers who paid for those TV spots aren't happy less people are watching. This hits pockets far deeper than the fans. The TV shedule is put out around the same time as the NBA shedule so it's not like nobody just found out this was a primetime national TV game.

Pop could have easliy sent those guys straight to Miami after Washington and sat them out last night. Then they play tonight, Saturday against the Grizz, and then take an extra day off since they don't play again after that until Tuesday. If that would have happened Stern doesn't really have to say anything, the big money guys are still happy, and Pop gets his guys the extra rest.
I think your the only one that sees both sides of the story. I totally agree with you. I think National televisied games should have been more important to Pop. Those other games would of been better to sit those players down.

Like I said last night. I brought tickets for a Nets-Heat game in jan. I paid $110 for 4 seats (not even that good of seats when you consider distance.) The price differences between games are a huge jump. Superstars are what drive this league. I can watch basketball any where. And like PrettyT11 said. There is alot more money going on. I understand basketball is a business. Especially at this level of play. I would not want to that Nets game and not see LeBron James, Wade, or Bosh play because they just came off a road trip.

This wouldn't be a problem if the NBA didn't market players. Start marketing to the teams.

Why should they pay for it?

Nowhere on your ticket does it guarantee or promise that you'll see certain players on the court and I guarantee nowhere in Pop's contract does it state he has to play his players in every single game.

Stern sticking his nose in Coaching Decisions is only going to open up a whole can of worms because then it's just a matter of time before he's telling teams that they can only play Man Defense and ban Zone Defense because "scoring is too low". It's ridiculous.

Every team goes through this...as someone mentioned, the Heats schedule to start off Nov was just as bad...so I don't so much have a problem with the schedule because it evens itself out....I just don't think you can start interfering with coaching decisions. Very dangerous precedent.
