anyway, I would love to see Durant win it, simply because he deserves one or two in his career. Malone was never, at any point, one of the 5 best players in the league, like Durant is now.
You're absolutely right. Malone was never a Top 5 player at any point in his career. I guess that's why he won two MVP awards, had multiple trips to the NBA Finals, was named All NBA 1st Team 11 times, was top 5 in Player Efficiency for 13 seasons, scored more points then anyone in NBA history barring Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and averaged 25/10 over his career.

        Re: 2012/13 MVP

This award require 2 things. A really good player on a really good team (meaning top 2 team in the conference). I think I heard it best from a writer the other day.

"Windhorst: Fact. I would argue, however, that LeBron probably deserved to be the Player of the Month in the East every month for the past several seasons and probably for the next several seasons into the future as long as he's healthy. He has no peer. Derrick Rose won the MVP in 2010-11 and he had a great year but LeBron lost it mostly because of political reasons. He also probably should've won the MVP in the 2007-08 season; the Cavs struggled with injuries that season, but he was the most dominant player then too. He has been the league's best, most consistent and most dominant player at both ends since then and he has only been getting better."

....lol But Durant and Carmelo have been playing really well. So I would say it really about the team record for all 3 of those guys.

And I'm not forgetting Kobe... But until his record improves. You really can't bring his name into this thread. I'm sorry. Guys like Z-Bo and CP3 belong in here.

Besides playmaking there's nothing else Lebron does far and away better than KD. He's a way better defender than he was last year. Not as good as Lebron but he's slightly above average, he's still a good rebounder, he's a way better shooter than Lebron, he's miles ahead of Lebron in terms of playing off-ball.

                Re: 2012/13 MVP

                Its Lebrons to lose.

The only players that could win it from him would be; Kobe, Melo, KD.

Kobe; would need to really step it up, the Lakers would need to dominate, this is imo highly unlikely.

Melo; playing great now, long season though, need to see the Knicks continue to play at this level, if they can muster a top 2 seed in the East, I could see Melo getting it.

KD, has the skills, OKC needs to finish #1 out West for KD to get it though imo.

Rose would be on the list to win it from LBJ. No other players I can think off that could win it from LBJ. Zbo will never get it, unless MEM wins ~ 65 games.

See I used to feel this exact same way.. Until I watched last years playoffs.

LeBron showed everybody he has another gear, almost looks like he coasts through the regular season

Honestly, if the Lakers turn their season around somehow, Kobe could easily take it from Lebron. As many drama filled seasons the Lakers have had, it's still way too early to count them out from being the star studded team they were hyped up to be.

and this is exactly why all awards across all sports from mvp to the heisman to the hall of fame are all becoming bs awards; because theres always some silly reason why the most deserving person doesnt get their due.

That's true... But every year someone starts a thread like this. And we blah blah blah all year long about something that's senseless lol.

So as of right now dec 7. Kobe could have another 100 point game. But if doesn't have a good record. He's not worth talking about in any MVP talk.

So who is it you are saying you feel is the most deserving?

He is completely coasting through the regular season lol It's crazy that's he's averaging these number without even really putting forth effort

The only thing keeping Durant from completely dominating is himself. This is a guy who could easily average 33-35 easily on amazing efficiency along with 8 boards and like 3 assist but he's just overly passive that sometimes he ends up not making an impact on the court from time to time like the first quarter of this game and in the Finals.

I think durant is still just trying to evolve his skills, with this whole ordeal on focusing on playmakings and assists.

But then again, I wonder if that whole thing is a passive/aggressive way of avoiding the elephant in the room.
