Wait they scrapped fan voting as well? That was a problem too

Barnes would be embarrassed against those other guys.

My early favorite is James White.

If James White is still pulling windmills from the foul line it might be over before it starts.

Are they making it conference v. conference? As in the Finals will be between a representative from each conference cause if that's true, smh...

James White / Gerald Green, the only Finals that needs to happen.

I haven't heard any confirmation, but that seemed to be the indication from the Hakeem line.

Will be great if they get rid of fan voting. That was stupider than the dunk wheel and the glowing puck(yes, diff sport, but still.....).

I wonder what dunk contest format is. Each guy with 2 dunks? So that's 12 in 1st round, then how many advance to 2nd(and final?) round.

Ross should put on a purple Raptors jersey and do this dunk:

Or possibly expand on it.....armpit in the rim!

But 1 thing Ross NEEDS to do.....bring in Lowry(former Rockets player). Big key in dunk contest is getting fans hyped up. What better way, then bringing in a PG who had been with Houston for 4 seasons. Let Lowry come in and assist him on a dunk or two. Maybe even Ross jumping over DeRozan,Gay,Lowry.

With respect, I'd like it better if Ross were able to make his mark without resorting to jersey homages and guest opponent passers. I think normally I'd be okay with that stuff if it were new and unique but after the past few years of all the excess overkill, where the contest seemed to become more about everything except the dunk, I just want to see a straight forward dunking showcase.

But at the same time, in these days of dunk contest, he basically HAS to do something like that because that's becoming the normal.

It's either that, or him(or another player) break the dunk contest out of this "normal" and introduce new era in the dunk contest.

Never knew the 6 player format was used alot before. I only started watching in 2000(though all I remember from that year was VC,McGrady,Francis), and 4 player format was used for all but 2 of those years.

Both times dunk contest happened in Houston, a Knicks player won. Hopefully that trend doesn't continue.

Fan voting was biggest joke ever.

Of the 4 years of fan voting(that also had judges scoring dunks), 3 of them had the winner be the guy who DIDN'T even get highest judges score. 2009 should have gone to Dwight(how can a guy with 2 50s, not win dunk contest), 2010 should have gone to DeRozan(only guy with a 50 in that contest, and had highest score too), 2011 should have gone to McGee(1 of 2 guys to get 50 that year, and had highest score)

I'm still mad about that 2011 dunk contest. Talk about dunk contest screwjob. Judges rigged it so Griffin could make it to finals. He got 45,but a judge changed theirs(after seeing what Griffins total would have been) so he'd get 46 and advance. Don't remember who changed theirs, but it might have been a guy who was representing TNT(meaning doing commentary while judging). Would make sense, TNT telling them to put Griffin in finals to bring in ratings. NBA turning into WWE more and more each year.

Yes yes, I guess that's what I was getting at. My hope is the return to six contestants alongside a return of real judges (and hopefully a rule of some kind limiting prop usage) leads players to treat the 2013 contest as a sort of re-birth. We've lived through terrible contest ideas before. 2002's Wheel paved the way for a return to normal rules the following year and subsequently the '03 contest was fantastic.

                                <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/3v-lij6N0Z0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I'm just hoping for a return of the dunk. I've had enough years of the jersey honor. It was kind of cool when Josh Smith rocked the 'Nique jersey. Still sort of neat when Nate Robinson wore the Spud Webb uniform. Slowly began to lose its appeal when Gerald Green went the Dee Brown jersey route. It confused many when Rudy Fernandez honored Fernando Martin by wearing his jersey. And finally, Chase Budinger and Jeremy Evans' use of jerseys combined with acting skits allowed for everything to hit rock bottom.

I didn't even realize there'd be so many "jersey" odes until I just began thinking of them one by one. At least six times a player has attempted to build false fan momentum by wearing a former player's jersey in the past seven years. I hope that one gets buried for a while.

When it comes down to it, dunk contest crowds love great dunks. If they're not excited before the dunk, they will be once the dunker brings something righteous to the table.
