Looking back I think James White was 2 years too late in the contest. Only two years ago he was pulling East Bay from the foul line.
Dammit if only everyone made their friggin dunks it would have been great.

It should've been Faried vs T Ross IMO.#1 Laker fan

He barely missed the free throw line and did it with two hands at that..
There should be some kind of build up. Save the best/hardest attempts for last so we wont have to sit through a brick fest which kills the entire mood.
The finals/semis should introduce the complexity and also limit guys to a couple misses. Maybe add the game of horse to the dunk contest.. Lol atleast that would make the failed attempts entertaining.

Oh I'm pretty sure that's what it was even Kenny mentioned it. He's been hitting those exact dunks for years over and over.
Hell Gerald Green was probably smashing that one he tried tons of times no problem too. Pressure busts pipes.
Going forward I don't think the contest will be all that great unless like Victor Oladipo gets into the league and pulls something. Just using him as an example as someone we won't expect will have us claiming the contest is back in a year or two with the stuff they pull.

Re: ***** 2013 NBA ALL STAR WEEKEND THREAD*****
People calling dunk contest rigged cause the envelope with winner was already made before the final voting timer ended.
Don't get how that'd count as rigged.
If you get millions of votes, and one guy has 58% of the votes, it'd take alot for the other guy to catch up, especially in like 10 seconds more of voting.
NBA sees how many votes are coming in by the second, so they probably saw that very little votes were coming in at the end so there was no way Evans would have caught up.
And people thinking NBA would put something in the Raptors favor clearly hasn't seen a single Raptors game this year....Comment

4 game win streak!
As for the conspiracy theories....Meh. Everyone always looks to rob the fun out of these things. It's not like the result is gonna change the world or anything.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: ***** 2013 NBA ALL STAR WEEKEND THREAD*****
I never heard any kind of bashing for Nate,Josh Smith, AI2 and so on. And those weren't known guys during their first contest. How can fans get hyped up watching something if the commentators are doing nothing but ripping on the guys on tv. TNT guys either need to actually do their jobs as commentators, or stop calling this dunk contest, cause right now, they sound like nothing more than just random bashers in the audience. Barely any professionalism at all.
Sure, Ross did get lucky not even getting penalized for all those missed attempts, but it's nothing new in the dunk contest. Many guys haven't gotten lower score due to missed dunks.
Andre Iguodala with behind the back too. He didn't even go 360 like Ross did, but he didn't get it on 1st try either, and he got a 10. So Ross was no diff from that.Last edited by Majingir; 02-17-2013, 01:08 PM.Comment

I do think flight white and Faried were robbed on their first dunks. Manimal should have at least gotten in the 40s. I mean he was almost just pulling those two dunks off with a drop step. Ah well it is what it is though.
And we'll all be right here next year to watching.

Okay seriously why did Jeremy Evans jump over Dahntay Jones? There is literally no obvious connection between them but Dahntay was in warm-ups and everything like it was already planned.NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers

What about Ross getting Jones? I know they were teammates in high school, but would have liked if he got another Raptor player helping him out. Though Kenny saying the Raptors don't have a point guard was stupidest thing ever. Has he never heard of Kyle Lowry....It wasn't even a year ago where Lowry played for Houston, so surprised Kenny didn't even know that.Comment

Re: ***** 2013 NBA ALL STAR WEEKEND THREAD*****
However much he's remembered or not remembered, I don't think it has as much to do with playing for Toronto as you think it does. If a player turns in a historic performance, it's a historic performance, regardless of what team a player comes from. If it really played that much a role, Kenny Walker would be a legend right now and Vince Carter and Jason Richardson would likely be afterthoughts.
As an aside, this is so fickle, but I wish Ross' 2nd round dunk did come while he was wearing Carter's jersey. I like being able to see old contest highlights with players wearing their own jerseys, not a mis-matched top. Not to mention, there really wasn't anything Carter-like about that dunk. I really liked the dunk, but it was not Carter-ish. Like, when Gerald rocked Dee Brown's jersey, he went no-look, you know what I mean?
They should just go back to the early format. It was better then.
Maybe we won't see as many crazy dunks but that's kind of the point to me.
Don't do crazy dunks unless you can do them.
I feel like the format changed right after Doug Christie couldn't pull off the soccer kick off the backboard dunk.
Since then, my memory feels the contest has become a joke with too many gimmicks and less quality.
In between Christie and Howard, there were some spectacular moments (even after Howard at times). Vince Carter, Jason Richardson, Desmond Mason, Steve Francis, Tracy McGrady, Ricky Davis, Andre Iguodala, Gerald Green, there's been a lot of bright points.Last edited by VDusen04; 02-17-2013, 02:00 PM.Comment

I don't know why every year I think the competitions will be better. They just keep getting worse. Every event, lol.
The Skills Challenge is a ****ing joke. Are they serious with that? Have guys dribble at half speed around a few cones, shoot a free throw and make a few chest passes from 5 feet away? Really? Come the **** on. Make them do something worthwhile for Godsake.
The Dunk Contest was so disappointing. The format was an abomination with the East vs West. Regardless the competitors did not perform like I wished they would. I thought James White had the best dunk but overall everyone failed. Nobody won that contest. Ross won because he actually made his dunks. Evans? How the **** did he make the finals? Gerald Green? WTF were you thinking with that net cutting dunk? One of the worst ideas ever.Comment

Regarding the contest, I sort of had a feeling the favorites might not live up to expectations. That just seems to be how it goes a lot of times. Remember how pumped we all were about Shannon Brown? Regardless, I disappointed in Green and White's performance as well. The net cutting would have been ridiculous even if he'd made it. On the flip side though, I was pleasantly surprised with Bledsoe and Faried. And I was happy to see Evans improve upon last year. I'm not saying he was awesome, but he was so bad last year, I was preparing for the worst.Comment
