Blazers are still paying him money. Look for yourself, Kemp's buyout is still counting against the Blazer's salary cap room.

That frees up 14 million. Good for Penny though, few players would turn down that money to go home.

Do you have a link or something? That's what I thought too. I'm pretty sure Kemp didn't walk away from the money. It was supposed to be like $10 mil over the next 5 years or something.

I think Kemp left with a reduced payment contract, meaning he agreed to the contract being paid less than what the contract originally was, but the Blazers are still paying him the reduced balance.

Ok, you guys are correct. I was wrong. Kemp was due $21 mil in 03 and 04 and he's taking $5 mil in those two years. However, the NBA is still charging $14.5 mil of his salary against Portland's cap.

I think the Grizz are a great team playing in a tough conference.

Hardaway is Memphis born and bred, he is loved here. Hardaway would sign for not too much to play at home in front of his family and friends. Never underestimate the power of home. Hardaway can play 3 positions coming off the bench, that makes him wanted.

                              <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Plus, there are all those rumors of the Grizzlies doing a sign and trade in the off-season to acquire Kobe Bryant. After a multi-player, and maybe even multi-team deal gets done, Penny could come in and provide veteran leadership to a young club. He is still skilled, and like squid said, is very versatile.
