Of course, Dirk had a legendary playoff run of averaging 25+ points, but I don't think anyone could call him leading the Mavs to an NBA title over Miami during the regular season.

Now I'm just getting off-topic lol
The team defense was pretty awesome though, like I had referenced that plays into the discussion. Plus, Dirk had a historical run that year.

There aren't any rules to what I was saying, just speaking in general terms. Rudy Gay as a #1 option is just asking for failure IMO.

I agree with you there. Gay is way too much of an inconsistent shooter to be "that guy" for a championship team. But still, he's the #1 option for Toronto right now.

No doubt about it that Gay is #1 option for Toronto. This goes with the whole "who's a franchise player" or who is a "superstar" discussion. It just depends what everyone's definition of these terms are.

My main point in the #1 option thing was that, sure, Gay is a #1 option for Toronto, I just wouldn't expect them to get very far if he's your best option.

Exactly.. Unless a team is built like the Pistons last championship team.. Where all your other options aren't really a fall off from your main guy. But then you need great defensive pieces.
