Most definitely needs to be a call there, but I think that's a bit too early to call it on the shot.

That's a foul and he should've been shooting.

EDIT: Read your post again and you actually say exactly why it wouldn't be a shooting foul. Because Monta holds his arm AND THEN Rivers tries to go up for the shot. That's not a shooting foul. It would be a shooting foul if Monta held his arm as he was going up for the shot.

EDIT2: I just want to reiterate going forward, if this discussion goes on a bit, that I think a foul definitely should have been called, just not a shooting foul. My comment about Rivers not doing himself any favors is because I think in late game situations refs really look to avoid bailing guys out for putting them in a tough situation. I wouldn't be surprised if part of the reason Tony Brothers didn't call the foul is because Rivers essentially walked directly into where the defense was. Definitely not a good excuse not to call a foul, but that might have been part of their mindset.
You may need to read my post again lol. I didn't say he fouled him and then went for the shot attempt. I was saying he was holding his wrist as he went for it. When he finally reaches in and grabs his wrist, Rivers has already picked up his dribble and is pulling the ball up to shoot. He's in the act of shooting when he fouls him.

I have a hard time believing Rivers was in the act of shooting here:

Sorry for the terrible quality, that's the best video I can find on YouTube. That's the best angle and closest I could stop it to when Monta makes contact. To me, that's not a shooting foul. I can see how others would see it like that, but I think it would have been unfortunate if Rivers would have been awarded 3 free throws for that. To me, it looked like Rivers saw Monta about to foul him, tried to stop his dribble and get the shot off but Monta got to him too soon so Rivers had to do the rip through.

You can take a photo of plenty of shooting fouls that look like that though.

EDIT: Nevermind, not gonna keep this argument going, what's done is done, I think we can all agree that it should have at the very least been a foul and it was another example of the pretty poor officiating we've seen so far this year.

This isn't a "poor me being a Heat fan" post but I miss watching a young team slowly get better each year. Cole has been that player for me these past 2 years, just seeing him improve and add new things is so exciting. This comes up because I've been watching guys like Drummond and Kyrie and my current bandwagon player...Antetokounmpo.

I enjoy the ride we're on with LeBron and co..but once it's over I'll be excited all over again waiting on the next D Wade

You should watch the Lakers. Meeks could very well be the next D-Wade.
