Re: 3/25 - 3/31 Games Discussion Thread
I agree about the resting.. But at the same time they are sorta in a slump.. You don't want to go into the playoffs playing your worst basketball in two seasons.. I don't think they will be rested much, but I really don't think they care about fighting for the seed, it'll be more to fix their current struggles.. Mainly getting Wade re-acclimated and brought back up to the speed everyone else is at.Comment

Re: 3/25 - 3/31 Games Discussion Thread
1. I feel they are closely matched if Paul George is Paul George from the start of this season rather than how he's been lately.. LeBron, Wade, and Bosh won't all start off as horribly as they did tonight, maybe one of them, or two of them, but not all three of them in a playoff series... I also believe Lewis will be benched in favor of Battier come playoff time, and they'll have Ray.
5. They should definitely play Oden as much as he can handle without hurting them.. He didn't do an absolute horrible job on Roy, Roy hit some pretty good shots away from the rim, give him that credit... He defended him much better than Bosh has the past two seasons.
By the way, I hope Wade's ok. Looked either like a cramp or a pulled hamstring.Comment

Re: 3/25 - 3/31 Games Discussion Thread
Unless I'm reading something wrong which I doubt lol. Hibbert doesn't have a great rating among players averaging 5 ore more rebounds in any category besides contested rebounding % . So I would think that link actually supports what you said."Ma'am I don't make the rules up. I just think them up and write em down". - Cartman

Dieng with another double-double.. 15 and 15, dude came out of ****ing nowhere, and I'm enjoying the fantasy benefits.. He got me more points tonight than Paul George, Deandre Jordan, Anthony Davis, or Ty Lawson did.. Haha awesome.Comment

The Pelicans didn't have their starting backcourt or Austin Rivers and somehow managed to beat the Clippers... Anthony Davis had an awful game offensively but still put up great numbers ending with 16 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 6 blocks & 2 steals.Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

I don't know if I was reading it wrong but I gathered that he was near the top of contested rebounding. A stat that I just don't really buy unless someone can break it down to me. Most of those categories in fact don't really jump out at me as groundbreaking stuff.Comment

Don't know if we will see it tonight but Memphis has been occasionally using a Gasol/Koufos duo together.. I actually really like it, Koufos is much more mobile than what you would think, and they both are highly skilled for big guys..
Honestly with ZBo not quite being the stud he was a couple years ago I would almost rather Memphis try and let him go and grab a small forward who can score and create looks.. They have everything else a good team needs. And Davis, Koufos, Leuer can fill the gap left from him leaving.
Wouldn't mind seeing Prince gone either as Lee and Johnson have been excellent defensively.. Throw Allen in there and you have four solid wing defenders, plus last years DPOY, and Conley a top 5 defensive guard.. It's time to address the scoring need..
Prince out, ZBo out unless he will sign for cheaper after this season.. I believe he wants to stick around so maybe he will.Comment

Enes Kanter and Derrick Favors are out-playing Gasol and Randolph. Favors has 14 points and Kanter has 11 boards in the first half.Twitter: @TyroneisMaximus

Win is a win but I don't feel as good about it as I probably should. All around sloppy game. No flow... Refs were garbage.
Good game Heat fans.

I don't know if I was reading it wrong but I gathered that he was near the top of contested rebounding. A stat that I just don't really buy unless someone can break it down to me. Most of those categories in fact don't really jump out at me as groundbreaking stuff.
Essentially the rebounding stats on the NBA player tracking site is broken down like this:
You get a rebounding chance when on a miss shot, you are within 3.5 feet of the ball.
So if Roy Hibbert was within 3.5 feet of the ball on 10 misses for a game, he has 10 rebounding chances.
On that site, they break rebounds into 3 categories: total rebounds in a game, total uncontested rebounds and total contested rebounds.
Total uncontested is getting a rebound when nobody is within 3.5 feet and total contested is the opposite. I have no idea why 3.5 feet was used for any of this. If somebody else knows, please explain.
So contested rebounding percentage is if Hibbert had 4 contested opportunities and got 2 rebounds, he has a contested rebounding of 50%.
So if we take Roy Hibbert:
For contested rebounding %, he was at the top.
For contested rebounds per game, he was about 26th or 27th among players getting 5 rebounds or more per game.
So my interpretation is that when he is given the opportunity, he is good at getting rebounds in contested areas but he doesn't get a lot of opportunities to do it. After looking through that data, he rates out very similar to Enes Kanter in almost all rebounding categories on there.
So there are 2 schools of thought on this subject that I know of:
1. Someone is a good rebounder because when given the opportunity, they grab rebounds in their area. They just don't get a lot of opportunities for whatever the reason may be. The argument for Roy Hibbert.
2. Someone isn't a good rebounder because they don't generate or create enough opportunities for themselves. They only get rebounds because they happen to go to them from time to time and their % are higher because they can't get to as many missed shots as others. The argument against Roy Hibbert.
Argument # 2 may be used to support a statement like Kenneth Faried is a great rebounder because he creates so many opportunities for himself even if his % isn't high.
I hope I made sense because I know this can be confusing.Last edited by phenom1990; 03-26-2014, 10:52 PM."Ma'am I don't make the rules up. I just think them up and write em down". - Cartman
