Re: Pistons vs. Nets: Second Round Thread

Wow... If both teams showed up on the same night, we'd have a hell of a series. Pistons fans need to hold on hope of the old Home Court Advantage.

P.S. To the people who say "Melo".... Richard Jefferson is scoring almost at will the last two games against a very solid defender....RJ would be dropping Wilt Chamberlain numbers on Marsh-Melo.

I agree Duece, I also thought the Pistons had this series but man NJ has really played great basketball the last two games. If Detroit does not win on Friday the series is done in 6.

Re: Pistons vs. Nets: Second Round Thread

The Pistons aside from Richard Hamilton are not shooting well, and they're getting killed on the boards. Combine these 2 things, and the result is a recipe for low-scoring disasters like Games 3&4 were for them. The Pistons have to find a way to get better shots close to the basket and they absolutely must shore up the rebounding problem, or they're done in 6.

Keeping Kenyon Martin off the boards is going to be a big problem now that Rasheed Wallace's foot injury has flared up again. K-Mart just eats Mehmet Okur for lunch out there on both ends of the floor. Plus Corliss Williamson is too undersized height-wise to deal with K-Mart, and Elden Campbell is too slow to guard him. This poses a serious matchup problem for the Pistons if Sheed continues to have too much trouble moving around with his injured arch.

The half-court traps the Pistons were using early in the series aren't working. The Nets have solved it and make the Pistons pay each and every time with either easy baskets or free throws. The traps should not be called upon that much anymore except on rare occasions.

Also, coach Larry Brown should find a way to get Lindsey Hunter more minutes. He does by far the best job defending Jason Kidd. Chauncey Billups should take less of a PG role and Hunter move over to the PG spot whevever both are on the floor. Billups is not doing a good job running the point in this series, so this move would benefit him as well. And whenever all the starters are on the floor let Tayshaun Prince take more of a PG role initiating the half-court sets and have Billups run around screens or spot up near/behind the arc to utilize his shooting ability. Mike James should not get any playing time unless one of these players gets in foul trouble.

And as far as substitution patters go, I thought a big mistake in Game 4 that coach Brown made was when he took Rip out early in the second quarter when Rip was hot. When a guy has a hot hand like Rip had early on, you gotta keep him on the floor, period. Screw a fixed rotation -- this is the playoffs! Fixed player rotations are for getting through regular seasons. Adjustments have to be made on the fly during the playoffs, and that includes encountering situations like these.
