Does Lowry like playing in Toronto? If they can offer him that much I'd be surprised to see him leave. Seems like he's found a great spot for himself there.

Yeah he's always said he loves playing there and he admits it's the best place for him. Hope he sticks around.

But I will say this...the one reason it might be better for people to cheer against the Nets(regardless if they were facing Raptors,Bobcats,Hawks or anything like that) would be because if the Nets fail, it shows the league that the big salary stuff doesn't work out, if the Nets are successful though, more teams might start doing that. Similar to Jays and Marlins the past 2 seasons in MLB, both with huge salary teams, and both failed. And that's in a league where guys get 20M+ per year already. Can't imagine where things might be right now if those teams were successful.
You don't need the Nets to lose to know that spending money doesn't equal an automatic championship. They're not the first team or the last team to do that.

You, however, cannot sit back and be cheap and think you can win long term, as that has been proven.

He seems fine there, but you never know what reasons someone might have for wanting to leave(I always mention it,Lowry and Gay are best friends,Gay was traded from Toronto, and both are gonna be UFA,so maybe they'll want to play together somewhere else?).But seeing how the president of the company that owns the Raptors is also really wants Lowry to stay(and he's the same guy who got Defoe,Bradley,Cesar among others to join TFC), it shouldn't be much problem convincing him to stay.

Making playoffs and possibly even getting to 2nd round hopefully is enough to convince a guy to stay on the team.

I don't mean automatic championships, but if the teams who are successful are the ones spending lots of money, eventually it'll turn into the MLB where guys want and get so much money. Just don't want NBA to turn into that. NHL and NFL both seem to be good at controlling salaries,MLB is the worst, and NBA can go one of two ways at this point.

But to your point though...Suns had 3rd lowest payroll and were better than most teams in the league(and most east playoff teams too). Rockets and Blazers are both in bottom 10 in salaries and one of them is going to the second round.

Key phrase in my post: Long Term.

Who are these cheap teams(or to a lesser extent teams that aren't known for spending big bucks in the Offseason)year in/year out and are still consistently competitive year other than the Spurs? Yeah, spending big doesn't guarantee championships but you do have to spend eventually if you want your team to progress, which is my point.

I didn't mean I don't want the good teams to be the ones with the higher salaries, I just don't want the good teams to be the ones consistently over the luxury tax cause then it'll make things much more unbalanced cause not every team in the league can afford to pay the luxury tax. So if NBA gets to a point where teams have to be over luxury tax to be consistently competitive, it'll ruin things.

Well after the next Lockout, I'm sure they'll come up with more ways to "level the playing field" for all teams, including the owners who don't particularly care about improving their own team.

Am I the only one that would be scared to give Lowry a long term deal? He's had a great year but it is a contract year. Prior to that, he's been a decent PG but you dont pay decent PGs 13-15 mil.

Everyone here pretty much knows my thoughts/feeling on guys who underachieve for most of their current contract and/or their career and then once that final year hits, they have a "career year".

There's going to be plenty of them in FA this year and I hope GMs are dumb enough to back up the truck on these guys after one postseason or in some cases, one season. Follow the trends. Lowry's good, but he ain't $13-15 mil good...I'd say he's $7-$9 Mil good, but then again the salaries are so screwed up throughout the league it wouldn't surprise me to see him crack double digits in terms of his yearly salary.

Breh a team would be idiotic to give him a big deal. He aint special he's middle of the road.

I agree with both of you, I don't think he warrants that kind of money. I don't care what kind of playoffs he's having.

I was gonna suggest something along the lines of a 3 year $25M deal for Lowry. But with the way some players are getting overpaid, I won't be surprised to see a big offer go his way.

I personally don think he deserves a max contract but I think he deserves to get paid.

IMO the raps are dumb not to resign him. He's the heart of the team, brings it on both ends of the floor and is the leader. Calling him middle of the road doesn't account the intangibles he brings IMO.

Looking at his entire body of work, I'd say is does and it's not necessarily a bad thing.
