Those two scenarios you just gave me are entirely different than this guy sitting at home earning crazy money. C'mon, bro.

I want Boozer gone, but I feel if they get nobody, we might see another year of this bum.

I hope to hell I'm wrong.

Every team needs a scorer but what TYPE of scorer are you looking for?

You want somebody who can take the game over Offensively with the snap of your fingers? Or someone just to take some of the load off? If it's the former then yeah, those guys aren't easy to find but if it's the latter, you can find those and it won't cost you as much.

Another thing is if the Bulls have all these assets and miss out on Melo, why not use those similar assets to go and acquire one via trade?

        Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread

I've been pretty pleased with the Bulls front office overall, but I think the past few off-seasons have proven that the power really belongs with star players not owners, gms, or coaches. Essentially with star players the Bulls FO has no control.

Shorter term contracts have allowed for much easier movement of players and truly elite players are worth so much more than the market can offer them in terms of contract due to the salary cap. I've always thought the NBA would work best as a "free market" with no cap like baseball. Especially given that every additional $ spent on a star is less efficient because there are only so many possessions to go around.

Last night as the Lebron to Cleveland rumors started heating up I had an interesting idea:

Say James signs with the Cavs

This causes the chain reaction of signings:

Carmelo goes to NYC for money and Phil Jackson.

Bosh goes home to Houston where he'll be a great match with Howard and pick and pop partner with Harden.

Miami realizes its over and doesnt want to pay Wade, likeswise Wade doesnt want to rebuild.

Miami and Chicago work on a sign and trade: Boozer's expiring contract for Wade at 3 for 30. Bulls use MLE on Mirotic, sign Hinrich and go after Emeka for the veteran min.

All of the Big 3 go "home" and arguably to better shots at winning the title than resigning with Miami.

Either one, we didn't bother pursuing at any juncture. Not aggressively anyway.

We just needed a guy that could create his own shot on a consistent basis. Hell Belinelli would have been a nice compliment and we let him go for Mike Dunleavy because why exactly? Idk.

As crazy as it sounds, Nick Young would have been a perfect addition for a team that plays excellent team defense. He can get to the rim, he can shoot, can get out in transition etc. Something that aside from Rose, we lacked tremendously. And on top of that, comes relatively cheap. Even right now, you look at him sitting there, and we're worried about Pau Gasol? A guy who plays in the same spots on the floor as Noah. Wut.

Miami trade Wade for Boozer? Ok then.

Because they don't have assets apparently to the rest of the league. That's the most frustrating thing about all of this. When it comes times for the Bulls to make moves, teams want the world. When it's the Lakers or the Celtics or the Heat or Rockets even, people got no problem making the dumbest trades in the history of the league. It's hilarious to me (and annoying) that the Rockets moved Asik the way they did because I can promise you, if the Bulls had matched that deal and were looking to unload his 14+ million dollar deal this year to get the space for Melo, nobody would have taken that deal. In my entire life of watching basketball, the most valuable thing in the league has been expiring contracts. Carlos Boozer is a 16 million dollar expiring contract that nobody wants any part of trading for. Even though he can still get you 16 and 8. But there's even rumblings of somebody being willing to take on Amar'e and his damn 23 million dollar salary? It's insane to me.

Nope, want no part of Wade at this point. Four years ago, sure. Ten? Absolutely. Now? Nah.

No need to have brought McRoberts back if his presence would (likely) stunt the growth of Vonleh and Zeller.
D.J. White never saw meaningful action last year so I wouldn't count on him. Last year the coaching staff was very reluctant to play Biyombo with Jefferson so I'm not counting on him at PF either. Vonleh is pretty raw and Zeller was nothing special. Obviously there is some long term potential, but short term it's not a great spot to be in.

It's scary to think about. We're in an awful spot at PF right now. Obviously Zeller and Vonleh have potential, but short term we're in a horrible position for a team trying to compete.

Vonleh is nowhere near ready to see significant minutes, much less start.

^ but how can you say that about Vonleh, or even Zeller, without at least seeing what they look like this year.

I think it's safe to assume that Vonleh isn't ready seeing how raw he is offensively, but it'll be interesting to see how Zeller progresses.

I agree. The Bulls have tried, bringing in Rip, lil Nate, Dunleavy... expanding Butler's role, pushing Deng's offensive ability to it's brink, etc. It's safe to say they haven't found the answer yet but they have been trying. Add Rose on the shelf for two years and we can't even say 100% that what they had wouldn't have worked. People are too quick to chase stars and blow things up these days. Hell, the Bulls may already have that X factor with one or both of the shooters they're bringing in this year.
