Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Expiring contracts as big as Boozer's or higher are only really valuable if your looking to trade for guys like Joe Johnson, who are good players on bad long term deals. No real incentive for Minnesota to take him unless the trade involves the Twolves dumping a ton of bad contracts on the bulls, and that doesn't look likely.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Joerger's Grizzlies team won 50 games last season but he's currently in the middle of a mess in Memphis, where ownership suddenly fired much of its front office earlier this week
Bottom line, according to the source: Joerger wants out and Grizzlies ownership wants him out, but Joerger doesn't want to leave the rest of his multi-year contract on the table and the team doesn't want to pay him off.
The Grizzlies on Monday fired CEO Jason Levien and assistant general manager Stu Lash, but kept general manager Chris Wallace, VP of basketball operations John Hollinger and, at least for the time being, Joerger.
Levien promoted Joerger -- who won titles everywhere he went in the sport's minor leagues before taking an assistant's job in Memphis in 2007 -- last summer after the team couldn't reach contract terms with head coach Lionel Hollins and the two sides parted ways.
The Grizzlies might seek compensation from the Wolves if they want to hire Joerger, but their demands are not expected to be a deal breaker, the source said. The Wolves do have three second-round picks in this draft, if it does get down to compensation.
Last summer, the Los Angeles Clippers agreed to send a future first-round pick to Boston so the Celtics would allow Doc Rivers out of his coaching contract there#RespectTheCultureComment

What the **** are the Grizzlies even doing at this point? They want him out? It's almost like they punish success there.

Smh, anytime the Grizz do something good they **** it up.. Probably something with the owners. They don't want to spend any more money than possible, they run the team like a business rather than something for the fans to enjoy.

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
So assuming that Scott Brooks does get let go, who are some actual guys that folks would like to replace him? Should they go with a fresh face or go the retread route for their next guy? Curious to hear people's choices to be the next HC there.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Dunno... depends on who's available.
Definitely going to have to be someone who can reel in Westbrook though and has the organizations backing on it.
Also man, KD can't be at the point where he's not the one telling the guys to get their heads together.

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Someone who will motivate Durant to realize he is the 2nd best player in the world and that it isn't OK to enable Westbrook to have the shot selection of JR Smith. Someone who will harness Westbrook's energy and abilities into consistent efficiency.
The good thing is defensively I feel like they're decent it's more of an offensive problem. Specifically in the half court.
I have never felt like Durant and Westbrook have had exceptional chemistry more so they're just two of the best players in the world so it works out more times than not. I'm hoping the new coach can make them gel together more cohesively. Also, Serge is largely ignored on the offensive end when he has the skillset to do so much more (face up, shoot, post etc.)
Besides the obvious names out there I'd like to know which assistant coaches are coveted by NBA circles.Comment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
This is a HUGE IF and I don't think it happens but maybe Doc Rivers leaves the Clippers. This Sterling thing is not going to end quickly or maybe even the way some people want it to, and I know Doc Rivers has been very vocal (as has everyone else) about not wanting to be around if they are still owners.
Lionel Hollins is still out there, I like him a lot. He could bring an interesting change of pace to this team and preach defense first. They have KD and Westbrook for offensive power. He can coach up the defense a bit and develop some of the younger guys.Fino Alla Fine
