    2014 Off-Season Thread

I see Thomas as nothing more than a 6th man. (Hence what he'll probably be in PHX) Last year was probably his peak which was equal to Kyrie's worst season yet..

Man.. All I ask for is for LeBron to have one MVP, championship, finals MVP season back home in Cleveland..

After that Durant, Davis, George whoever, they can have the league.. I just want the one epic year from LeBron at Cleveland.

That's what being 5'9" does to your NBA career.

But, I don't think the picture was trying to indicate Isaiah was the better player of the two.

That's fine, there's a reason for the photo though, obviously. They are not equals.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what happens with Love.

Pat Riley paying that much for Bosh is almost as wild as LeBron going back to Cleveland.

The photo was probably made for the people who already consider Kyrie an elite PG. Just a reminder to show that he's not quite there yet.

Not even that . I think the photo was made to show That Isaiah is a good player and puts up nice numbers at 5'9. Kyrie in the picture just puts the numbers into perspective

We'll revisit this next year and it'll be a joke, IMO. Thomas benefited from playing for a team that allowed him to jack up shots. Because he was the primary ball handler, he had the freedom to do what he wanted when he wanted.

He's not getting that in Phoenix. At best, he'll be looking at the third guard in the rotation.

Meanwhile, Kyrie is going to play next to the guy who creates the most wide open looks in the NBA today in LeBron. He'll have the benefit of seeing how a real leader does everything, seeing how he prepares. I'm really, really excited to see Kyrie improve next year. He's got the exact type of person he needs to drive him into superstar territory.

I couldn't agree more, irving's game is gonna really improve with lebron there. He'll be shown how to lead a team, and how to approach the mental aspect of the game. I expect irving to reach his full potential under lebron, I think he'll reach that superstar status that everyone said he'd be after his 1st and second years.

What is elite though? I don't think anyone considered Kyrie elite, rather he was very close. He was overhyped coming into last season for sure but even with a down year he's still one of the best point guards in the league. Keep in mind this is an era where point guard is loaded.

So if Kyrie aint elite like you say, then Thomas is nowhere near that.

He's a solid young player who thrived in a dumpster fire of a team. Kyrie may not have been able to carry his team like many thought but you put him with elite talent and I could see the potential far exceeding what would happen if you put the same talent with Thomas.

For instance, people went gaga over Lilliard and bashed Irving but if you swapped them the narrative would have been a lot different IMO. I'd say Irving would have looked just as good as Lillard with Aldridge and Lillard wouldn't have led the Cavs to the playoffs either. Yet both Lilliard and Irving are still a tier or two above Thomas.

If you watched Kyrie last year it was easy to see why his numbers dropped. Constant Isos wear a player down, with Blatt running a real offense and Lebron there as well I think Kyries numbers in every category will shoot up next year.

Eh, I'm not for all the excuses though. Irving wasn't able to elevate his team, period. It will be immensely different next season though. He has no excuse not to look like a hands-down elite point guard.

Couldn't you make that same exact criticism of Kyrie right now?
The two are in totally different situations going forward, so any comparisons between them will stop as soon as the season starts.
I still think Isaiah could be an above average PG on a team, if he gets that opportunity again in the future.

Pretty much everyone on the cavs regressed last year - only person who might be an exception is CJ Miles, but there was a bigger problem going on than just Kyrie Irving.

ex is right - if he wants to be a true superstar he's going to have to learn to fight through that and not let the bigger issues affect his game. However, he's only 21 so I'd say you can still let some excuses slide for now.
