Yeah but teams would have been getting that more included. Boozer, first round picks, probably Snell and/or Mirotic. Those two are actually pretty similar in the idea that with Smith you'd be getting a guy you couldn't really depend on for his offensive game, but his value would be in his defensive game. With Boozer, he'd be terrible defensively, but you'd be getting him for his offense because he can still nab you 15-17 pts a game and 9 boards. And you know, if it didn't work out he takes almost 17 million dollars off your books at the end of the year along with the draft picks you got and a cheap potential prime Luol Deng defensive player in Snell and whatever Mirotic could potentially be.

If smith is on the right team and a coach can get him to be a defensive wing and focus on that...call no plays for him. ...he could do much much better

I just don't think Sacramento is the right team

I think Sacramento could win 50 games next season...of course if I'm playing 2K that is.

          2014 Off-Season Thread

Rudy Gay looked much better after going to the Kings, so I'm not going to jump on it as a horrible move just yet.

As the team has been built the past couple seasons Cousins as basically been the only guy with size who plays anything close to defense. Smith can help them there and with rebounding.

I know Smith has some horrible shot selection, and I was calling him overrated back when people were complaining he hadn't made an All-Star team yet. But in his Hawks days he was only taking 12-16 shots per game, at a little under 50% shooting.

If he heads to the Kings and takes the 3rd role and stays around that 13-14 shot range I see nothing at all wrong with that. We call some of these guys "chuckers" but really unless they are up there around 20 shots per, or high volume per minutes played, then I really don't think they are hurting their team. It's not like he shoots 30% or anything..

All he needs is for someone to tell him "STOP SHOOTING 3'S". Which he used to not until the past couple seasons, but he's still under 2 per game on his career.. If he limits those deep jumpers there really isn't much wrong with the way he plays in my eyes, just a little overpaid.

Them adding Collison, Gay, Smith could end up making them quite a bit better defensively than they have been in a long while. If they can get those guys to even slightly alter their games to share the wealth some they could end up a pretty good team. IMO

At this point it makes more sense for the Kings to keep Gay for the last year on his contract than take on Josh Smith. That'll leave them with almost 20 million in cap space and along with the rest of the expiring contracts they have, they could build a better team.

I'm hopeful that my Heat will surprise and continue to contend this year, though contending seems like a very far reach at this point.

Should Kings fans still have faith though?

Because if Love really wanted to go to Cleveland, then all he has to do is wait a year and he can play with Lebron and Wiggins. Love has all of the leverage because even if a team does come to Minnesota with a better offer, Love could refuse to sign an extension; and no other team is going to want to trade anything valuable for a one year rental. The Cavs likely aren't going to win it all next year anyway, so it's better to wait it out and keep Wiggins.
