    Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread

The Golden State Warriors are increasingly pessimistic about their chances of convincing Steve Kerr to turn down the New York Knicks in favor of Golden State’s coaching job, according to sources close to the process.
Sources told ESPN.com that the Warriors fear Kerr is “too deep” in talks with the Knicks and new shot-caller Phil Jackson to convince Kerr to rebuff Jackson now, despite Kerr’s close relationship with Warriors owner Joe Lacob and team president Rick Welts, as well as Golden State’s proximity to Kerr’s offseason home in San Diego.
Kerr’s agent is Mike Tannenbaum, the former Jets general manager. It is believed Tannenbaum is seeking a five-year deal for Kerr, the same length as (team president Phil) Jackson’s.
It is also believed Kerr is seeking a similar financial deal as Mike D’Antoni had when he inked a four-year, $24 million pact with the Knicks in 2008.

Stan Van Gundy had issues in a dysfunctional situation. The Dwight cloud hanging over everything was a total mess and in all honesty a disrespect to him. He did a great job in Orlando.

Mark Jackson is an average at best tactical coach and a great motivator who had a really, really talented roster. But he couldn't even stop firing coaches he chose for his staff! Something was going on there and he seems to be reason. You don't make enemies with ownership, management, and your own coaching staff on accident. Dude has a strange personality it seems, probably why he was linked to jobs for a while before actually landing one.

I don't see how anyone could think SVG isn't a huge upgrade if they can get him. My search would start and end with him.

I don't really think SVG is that great of a coach, but I don't believe he's bad either.. But he's thrived in a 3 point shooting system before so it could be a decent fit. Not like there is any huge names available they should target instead.

Yep..but its still a chance Melo could leave anyway and Phil might just be happy with that too.

What about George Karl on the Warriors?

And will Mike Woodson coach again?

Saw Pringles may go to Cleveland as an assistant for the offense.

Stan Van has been linked to GSW so far even if its not him.

Woody might be off for a season. We might be seeing him on NBATV

I wont believe Dantoni will be an assistant until I see it. Imagine him with the Wolves

I still prefer george karl for the dubs, but i guess van gundy could work. Someone mentioned hollins, but i dont think he would work with the warriors. They kinda play the exact opposite style that hes accustomed too, and though he'd help there defense and make them a better halfcourt offensive team. I dont think a grind it out style fits the dubs.

Mike Brown fired by the Cavs.

That one kinda came out of left field. He wasn't doing well and I didn't expect him to last, but I thought he would at least get next season.

It'll be interesting to see what type of Offense he'll run now because in Orlando, it more based off of Inside/Out since he had Duhwight and surrounded him with a bunch of shooters, but now that he doesn't have him I wonder how he'll run his Offense with a dominant inside presence. Even when he was still in Miami, he still had Shaq, who at the time was a "dominant"(I put it in quotations because he wasn't the same LA Shaq that was dominant in the post)and a young Wade as well.

Yeah.. I guess it also depends on what roster moves they make as well.

                                Whoa, what the heck

The Cleveland Cavaliers have fired Mike Brown as head coach.

Brown finished the 2013-14 season with a 33-49 record and 10th place in the Eastern Conference. He also served as Head Coach of the Cavaliers from 2005-2010 and his life time record with the Cavs was 305-187.

“This is a very tough business. It pains all of us here that we needed to make the difficult decision of releasing Mike Brown. Mike worked hard over this last season to move our team in the right direction. Although, there was some progress from our finish over the few prior seasons, we believe we need to head in a different direction. We wish Mike and his family nothing but the best,” said Dan Gilbert.

David Griffin comes out of the Suns system and wants to play faster, shoot more 3-pointers. Mike Brown was always ex-GM Chris Grant's guy.

Question sure to be asked: How much consideration will Mike D'Antoni/Vinny Del Negro get in Cleveland after working w/David Griffin in PHX

And Clippers assistant coach Alvin Gentry, for that matter, is a very natural target for new GM David Griffin after their PHX stint together
