    just for the record

    KG apologizes

Afterward, Garnett said he met with the team's public relations staff and discussed his remarks.

"It was one-sided thinking on my part, but I'm man enough to admit it," he said. Garnett specifically mentioned veterans and families with loved ones serving in Iraq in his apology.

"I'm a young man and I understand when I'm appropriate, and this is totally inappropriate. I was totally thinking about basketball, not reality."

Point guard Sam Cassell said any sports fan would know Garnett didn't mean any harm by his comments.

"Violence is not one thing that's on his mind," Cassell said.

In Sacramento, Kings coach Rick Adelman said he told his players to worry about themselves and not about Garnett's comments.

"I'm more worried about what he's going to do out there without any ammunition," Adelman said.

Guys, you have to look at the source. KG might have a high school education at best, is far removed from the real world as one can be, and probably couldn't find Iraq on a map. Thus, to expect anything to come out of his mouth that might resemble common sense is beyond his realm.

He is for real. In college you grow up. KG came out of HS to go pro, good for him. I would be willing to bet you he has more money than any other person who is 6 or years removed from HS, and yes, college does teach you stuff. College isnt all about book smarts. Its about learning about the real world. out of respect for the troops, he should of kept his mouth shut. I think he made a mistake, and he will probably apologize and move on. I just think its funny/sad that some of you are defending him. He said something that is politically correct (wether you like it or not, it is) and he went way to in depth. Hell, that might be the most descriptive ive ever heard, even more descriptive than some football coaches "going to wat speaches"

      <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

But you are missing the point completely, and its not too hard to see why. You are enveloped in the fact that he mentioned different types of guns while a war is going on. To sensitive uptights, this is politically incorrect, and I understand that and KG understands that. That issue is done with, the issue now at hand is why KG said it, and this is where fsquid is way off base. He was in the heat of the moment, and with that came a lack of judgment (considering who would be listening to him). Not a lack of college knowledge or "real world" knowledge. I will say that KG knows about just how "real" the world is just fine. Can I prove it? No, but neither can you or anybody else. The fact that he quickly apologizes shows that he knows how the "media" world works, and how they will pounce on prominent minority athletes for anything that can be construed as politically incorrect. Like I said before, a lack of judgment in one instance does not constitute a lack of knowledge collectively. I would hope this could be understood by all.

In college you grow up? Tell that to the college kids who get drunk off their asses. Tell that to the Colorado football team.

If that's the case, when you enter the workforce, you grow up. That is the next level after college, right? Therefore you should be more mature when you're out in the real world, no?

KG might have said something that some folks found offensive, but that doesn't mean someone can badmouth the man's character and intelligence. Matter of fact, KG's known as one of the most articulate and intelligent players in the League today.

I guess George Bush is an [censored] for his joking about finding WMD's at that Presidential roast a few weeks back, huh? Or any politician or celebrity, for that matter?

                  That's a low blow.

While I totally disagree with KG's statements, to correlate his level of eduacation and intelligence with common sense and courtesy is reaching.

Shaquille O'Neal was enrolled in college, no?

KG was just talking a bunch of nonsense to try and come off as hard after getting punked on national TV. Simple as that.

There are book smart atheletes who have no common sense, Chris Webber being a prime example. He is very well read, but a poor decision maker.

KG is at least 8 years removed from HS (I'm guessing here). A college education has nothing to do with common sense.
