Which is why people should just say there is only one Michael Jordan like there is only one Magic Johnson, one Larry Bird, one Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, one Wilt Chamberlain, and one Bill Russel.

Oh yeah, let me add another name to the "next Jordan" list, LeBron James. The verdict is still out on that one.

Re: How good could Jordan have been?

The fact remains that Jordan was profitable for the league. In order to keep that steady profit coming in, David Stern constantly tells the NBA analysts to compare players to Jordan so that the public will be interested in watching. At the same time, it's not really fair to the players playing today because instead of playing their game, they are being pressured into being "like Mike." Why can't they just let the Jordan comparisons go and realize that there will never be another MJ? He was a freak of nature. Let these players develop into the first Kobe or the first LeBron instead of the next Mike. That is PRECISELY why the field goal percentages and scores are down over the last few years. The league is so busy pushing everyone to be the "Next MJ," that night in and night out, these kids are TRYING to be the next Mike by doing acrobatic shots, taking teams one-on-one, forcing bad shots, etc. These players will never realize their true potential because ESPN, the NBA, and Sportscenter will not allow them to. Tracy McGrady seems to be one of the few people that didn't get dragged down into this "Be Like Mike" crap and now he is considered one of the best players in the game today, definitely on the same level as Kobe. But Kobe got dragged into this MJ comparison crap and because of it, he forces bad shots, hogs the ball sometimes, tries to do acrobatic moves, and shoots 42% from the field. He is playing with a mountain named Shaquille O'Neal, who constantly creates shots for other players by demanding double-teams. But these players can't knock down open jumpers and can't shoot above 50% because they are straying away from the team concept and are trying to make Sportscenter everynight and be the next MJ. The players are not to blame. ESPN, Sportscenter, and the NBA are to blame. Kill the Michael Jordan comparisons and let them play their games and develop their OWN names. There will never be another Michael Jordan. Let it lie already!

No, Kobe just really admires MJ. As for swingmen today being bad shooters, you can't really blame the media or the NBA if those people don't practice their fundamentals.
