Was just going to say, wouldn't consciously trying to plan your landing to avoid injury make you more likely to actually injure yourself. Once you start thinking about motions your body naturally makes itself you're knocking on harm's door.

Paul George suffered a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula. Will be in surgery for two hours, to get a pin placed in his leg.

People are hopeful that PG's injury is a good kind, because it was a clean break. However, ancillary damage will be known after surgery

Conflicting reports but several people I've talked to said that bone did in fact go through PG's skin.

As bad as the injury is, I hope that this doesn't cower guys away from playing International ball. Could have happened on an NBA court, too.Twitter: @TyroneisMaximus

Re: World Cup of Basketball in Spain
SpoilerIt'd be a tough correlation to attempt to make, in my opinion. I think we're all relatively conscious of how we land in the beginning - like as we learn how to jump and whatnot, but our body sort of naturally figures that stuff out for us. I mean, when we perform a routine layup, I'd like to think landing safely just sort of happens (unless we land on someone's foot). Similarly, even if we're displaced while taking to the air on a drive (standard foul, not flagrant), our bodies still tend to have an idea of how to land without us planning on the fly, no?
I'm just not entirely certain there's a window for being conscience about one's landing on a regular basis without it negatively affecting one's ability and willingness to attack by any means. The only time conscious self-preservation comes to mind would be on the dunks where the likes of James and Blake Griffin have dunked with two hands off one foot and hung on the rim (thus displacing their balance) and then proceeded to swing until their legs dangled lifelessly, inches from the ground.
In my personal experience, running, cutting, jumping, dunking, and landing are all sort of on auto-pilot and I'm not sure, for the sake of my health, I'd want it any other way. The moment I began attempting to become conscious on the fly about my natural movements, I feel like that's when something unusual and potentially harmful may occur.
I made the post before I went to bed, so I kind've did a bad job of explaining what I meant, maybe ill expand on it in the balling thread, lol
Guess that initial report is 'good' though, but like they said, guess they won't really know until they get in thereComment

Didn't see the injury, but the way the people on ESPN were talking about just made me feel sick for PG. I immediately started praying for him. Just terrible for that to happen the way that it did.Redskins, Lakers, Orioles, UNC Basketball , and ND Football

Re: World Cup of Basketball in Spain
I think the biggest problem for PG isn't the bonebreak but how well they repair any neurovascular problems during and after the surgery. However given they probably got top docs working on him, that shouldn't be an issue.Comment

Re: World Cup of Basketball in Spain
Prayers go out to Paul. The owners chiming in now is really unneccesary as that type of injury could happen to anyone due to how close the expansion is to the court.
How bout doing the obvious. Don't play anymore FIBA, Summer League, All-Star games @ Thomas & Mack until they are able to move that expansion back..Comment
