    depending on

what the lakers do this summer i can easily see them in the lottery next season.

seriously because it's not set in stone that kobe is coming back, and it would take a miracle for shaq to be playing with the lakers next season.

the lakers could be looking at a lineup of gary payton and bunch of scrubs, if that happens the lakers would be looking at the worst record in the league.

the west is getting stronger and the lakers look to be getting weaker.

even if kobe returns, the lakers depending on what they do this summer might just be on the outside looking in come playoff time next season in the NBA.

jenset, you have no idea what you are talking about as shown in both that post and in the rudy t thread. In fact, it is more likely for both Shaq and Kobe to be back in purple and gold then both leaving. This team has bent over backwards for kobe, he can make more money here and even if both come back I think he will be the focal point of this team. In denver and SAS he cant do that. And he will not take the exception in NY no matter how much endorsements that he would get and finally he will not put his future in the hands of Bielzebub himself, Donald Sterling. And SHAQ IS UNDER CONTRACT.LA doesn'thave to trade him and chances are, if they refuse to trade him and he gets a real chance to sit and talk with both Rudy and Kobe, they could work something out. I expect Rudy Tto come at shaq with something like, play as hard as you can this year and if you dont like the teams progress then walk away next season. Anyway lets say they do trade shaq. That is a garuntee that kobe will be back and it is not like they are getting scrubs for shaq, they would be getting very talented players.

But overall, Rudy T has been in this type of situation before, he is the best coach available, he is a player's coach, this is Kobe's best situation as well as Shaq's. They will be the exact opposite of what is in your post, a top contender next year.

you must be lakers fan in denial of shaq and kobe possibly leaving.

i don't believe shaq will be back no matter what happens with kobe.

with that said this team without shaq is not a better team with kobe.

shaq's problem isn't with rudy are whomever the lakers get to coach it's with their management.

If Shaq and/or Kobe are gone, expect Gary Payton to put up much better numbers this year than last.

Also, if Shaq is traded, they will get talent. Lottery? No way do the Lakers end up in the lottery next season, even with the West being stronger than last season.

It's not out of the question....if they do lose both players they could...

                      possible west playoff teams

                      Spurs
                      Wolves

Clippers(They would have to have either Kobe)
                      Nuggets
                      Jazz

All these teams have realistic chances of manking the playoffs. If the Lakers don't get Shaq or Kobe back i could see them being in the lotto.
