In the end it'll be the best player in the best team as always.

That might need to change but that's how it is right now.

I believe this year is not as clear as prior years.

You have several players that are playing at a very high level (Harden, Curry, etc) but we don't have a superstar dominating the game as before, where you had LeBron or Durant, eventhough they are still playing at a high level they are not having a top notch season.

Re: MVP of the season so far?

Never really been a fan of his personally, but if the Kings have a good enough record to get him in the discussion I think Cousins is the league MVP.. As of right now I don't think any player has the direct impact on the offensive end that he does, arguably Curry, Harden, LeBron.. But right now nobody is drawing the defensive attention he is.. Lots of double teams, top 5 scorer, over 12 boards a night, top 5 in assists for centers.

His stat line might fall a little behind some of the other guys (not by much) but he's getting it done the hard way. Not one man in the league has been able to stop him this year, nobody has been "dominant" like this inside since Dwight's big years in Orlando.

I have to believe that if the Pelicans find a way to make the playoffs, that Davis will get serious consideration for MVP.

I think that right now, Harden is probably the MVP so far. But I have a feeling that Lebron's going to start heating up and runaway with it by April.

Yeah these are the two right now, IMO.. If LeBron keeps this level of play and the Cavs keep winning he's got a strong case.. If the Rockets finish high enough in the West to sway voting away from Curry I think it could be Harden.

Individually I think Harden is ahead of Curry thus far.. But we all know how much they let overall record dictate the outcome of who actually wins it..

I love Curry, and feel the direct opposite about Harden, but part of me hopes Houston can finish top 3ish in the west just so he can win.. Because regardless of like/dislike I don't want to see anyone get robbed. He's the West MVP right now as much as I hate to say it.

I don't know, Davis is doing stuff that has never been done before. Not taking away anything from Harden, Lebron or anyone. But Davis should be a real contender.

Curry and its not even close. I have heard some people say james should be in the running but no way. The cavs even though they have been playing better have under achived for like 90% of the season and have already lost about has many games this season has they should lose the whole season because of that there is now way it can be james because they have lost to much.

I hope they do because davis is special and having a heck of year and he is only 21 that is the scary part and I want him to get playoff experience and If they make the playoffs that is just going to put him even more in the lim light.

That is impressive, but PER rewards volume and doesn't account for defense so you can't really use it as a backing for MVP consideration. The Pelicans are still fighting to make the playoffs and so he likely won't win it.

I think that was true, but at this point I have it at:
                          1. Harden
                          2. LeBron
                          3. Curry

This is only if the Cavs keep up their play and climb to the top of the conference. A 4-6 seed team probably won't have the MVP on it.

Eh, tough to think of it like that. This doesn't help Curry's case but what if Harden's defense is what keeps them from winning more games? What if his style of play, not getting others involved enough is what stops them from winning more games? He'd still be one of the best to lace em up this year, but I could be fine with someone else winning the MVP if they played on an equal or higher level while doing more things that help the team win more games. But I wouldn't be mad if he won it, continuing his current pace. I just wouldn't be mad if someone else did on a team with a better record.

How can they be "under achieving" not even half way through a season, unless your expectations for them were unreasonable considering all of the changes with that team?

How can you even say how many games they should lose on the season?

And even if those stretches are legit, many of the loses came with James out. He came back and they've won what, 8 in a row? With him playing at an MVP level? I'd say that helps his case more than hurts it.

I understand. I wasn't using it for MVP consideration, just another stat to say he is doing stuff that no one has ever done. As for defense, while he can still get better, I am pretty sure no one is complaining about his defense. Unless I misunderstood you on the defense statement?

It's funny how quick people have changed their narratives on James Harden.

It wasn't even a year ago when he was the worst player to ever play NBA defense based on 10 min YouTube clips and now he's a possible frontrunner for MVP.
