    Possible Draft Solution...

1st Round- At least 1 year of college basketball or 20 years of age.

Picks 1-30 Guaranteed Money- Based on Pick Position and Years of College...

A #1 pick with 4 years college experience would get more money than a #1 pick with one year college.

2nd Round Developmental (1st year guaranteed at minumum) Team option there after.

18 years old or having graduated with class for the year of the current draft.

Team has option of signing player to the team or keeping him in the developmental league for 3/4 of the first year with said player being given a guaranteed tryout with the team at that time.

Player counts as a roster spot the entire year.

Rights to said player can be traded, and if the player is not picked up by the team at 3/4 season the player remains on the roster of the team, but becomes a free agent at years end.

If picked up by the team, the player is automatically given a partially guaranteed contract for the next year, and would be eligible for an extension at a rate dictated by the average salary of players with similar experience.

If allowed to become a free agent, the player would have all of the rights and privileges of a conventional free agent.

The 2nd round contracts are like $300,000 a year. They are terrible. A partial guarantee would be $150,000 guaranteed. This fixes the draft system as high school players don't make squat.

You have to go to college to actually start making money your first couple years, unless you get a major endorsement deal.

The longer you are in college the more your starting wage would be.

This system would discourage early entry, encourage education, and bring up the quality of the game as many more players would enter the league with some collegiate experience.

That's the thing. With the new CBA coming up, it would be possible to argue that the continued youth movement is hurting the league. Implementing this system would dry up the money for most of the marginal under-aged non-collegiate athletes.

The Lebron James' would of course, make up for that with endorsement money, but the lower tier players would be better served going to school in an effort to make more money when they are drafted.

The 4 year guys would get the same deals that the guys get now. So it is the same as if you got a 4 year bust guaranteed today.

Instead of being Kwame Brown, it would be Joe Schmoe "4 year college graduate."

The financial system is roughly the same. The placement of talent would be different. The only reason the first year of the second round contracts is guaranteed, is to ensure that the players coming out do get some security out of the deal, while protecting the teams/league.

Why not blow out your knee and not get any money or a college education. There are a lot of high schoolers who skip college and one year college players who this happens to. You never hear of these guys but if the current trend continues there will be a lot of them. They will probably start sueing the NBA for allowing them to skip college.
