Re: Western Conference Playoffs - 1st Round Discussion Thread

The end of regulation in Spurs/Clips game was unwatchable. I'm sure people don't want to pay good money to watch a free throw shooting contest.

Easy fix. Under a certain time, with a foul away from the ball, the team being fouled gets to pick their shooter. This isn't basketball. Not the basketball I remember.

That's funny because the "basketball you remember" had even less stringent rules about intentionally fouling at the end of a game.

There's no need to change the rules. What will happen is players will adjust. Free throw shooting will become bigger and bigger for guys. It will become more serious at all levels and it will become a bigger and bigger need for a big man. And we'll see the tactic die off along with the sub-50% free throw shooting center.

All changing the rules is going to do is make teams adjust their intentional fouling strategies. You'll see it even earlier in the game at certain times.

I went to bed because I am very sick but am glad SA won! I know I may be crazy(careful what you wish for and all that), but the Warriors and Clips are the two teams I want no part of if Houston manages to win round 1. I need a well-rested Grizz to upset the Warriors and the Spurs' wheels fall to off after winning a grueling one against LA. While we'd be the underdogs in either series I think we traditionally match up better with the Spurs, and as a bonus I actually like/respect the Spurs and dislike LA.

Yes, he's been terrible but what pleasure do Spur fans get from pointing it out? He hasn't been right all season and all the injuries have taken their toll on his body. It is more sad than anything to see an elite level athlete struggle mightily through his worst season ever.

He's gotta be hurt at this point. He's played poorly this season, but he's having trouble even driving past defenders this series. The possession where he had a one-on-one with DeAndre Jordan and tried to defer, but was eventually forced into taking some terrible pull-up J was a real sign. In past years when he was healthy, he'd blow-by for an easy layup.

He wasn't good in the playoffs last year for the most part, either, but he was serviceable. It's going to be tough for the Spurs to go far if he can't recover some. I like Patty, but he's not really a true point guard. Manu is the only other decent ball-handler on this team and he can't play more than 30 minutes per game or so at this point (plus, he's much more prone to turnovers than a "conventional" PG).

Exactly, Pop may need to give CoJo some run in this series but he definitely isn't the playmaker that Parker or Ginobili are. Patty is like Earl Boykins or Nate Robinson in that he's 2 guard trapped inside a (under sized) point guard ' s body. He's always found more success looking for his own shot or being set up by a superior ball handler like Manu or even Tony.

I feel bad for tony. It's always sad when a true champion is held back by health issues. Looks like he doesn't have much left for this run.

I doubt the Spurs can win it all without him too.
