I wont blame Shaq for the finals demise, but his lack of conditioning and allowing his body to get fat hurt the Lakers several times. It's part of the reason that Payton got torched, and it had a big part in why Kobe and Shaq didn't like each other. In close games, Shaq had a few moments, but you had to worry about him not going hard to the boards (like Wallace), and getting up court after a missed shot. Stats dont win playoff games, its those key moments where momentum is shifted. Ben Wallace caused those moments late in games as Shaq watched rebounds or loose balls get snatched up by Detroit.

The bottom line is he got fat as a Laker, and got in shape as a Heat. How can anyone respect that? Again I ask, if the best player of your favorite team got fat, demanded all the money, then demanded a trade, got traded, then got into shape how would you feel towards him/her?

nah , that was a totally different person answering from what you quoted.

I said the quote , and I said some of you guys are a bunch of hack-a-facts.

Hack-a-facts: - just a made up play on words (hack-a-shaq...) , for all the people that ignore the statistics and debate/argue based on a cloudy memmory and a biased opinion.

the end of sentences you quoted was very literal - shaq had some recent years in the past when he was not great in the playoffs and that could be a good arguement about the weight/conditioning issue. Also for the people claiming shaqs weight/conditioning somehow hurt kobe, the game film AND statistics clearly show he was nothing but a heist box gunner , shooting ill advised jumpshots and not doing any rebounding or assists to shaq.

          - saying anyting bad about shaq for last years playoffs and especially the finals is flat out biased or confused. I wonder if some people actually watched the finals. I posted the statistics in the same post that you quoted..

none of this is directed at you specifically jordan, this is only an explanation of the quote.

driddy, ur right, stats dont win playoff games, but I totally agree with this quote:

"sometimes stats can be misleading but not when they favor someone in a landslide."

That's real talk. To even fathom blaming Shaq for last years playoff loss is so biased I can't even begin to explain it. People just can't accept the fact that Kobe isn't god. The year before, all the Kobe-stans were pointing the finger at Shaq when they didn't win, and I could see it, but this year the messiah (Kobe) was just plain bad, and the fanatics won't accept it. They are STILL pointing the finger at Shaq. Those stats differences are just too big to be disregarded.

Shouldnt this thread be about how Shaqs getting into shape will enhance his performance next season rather than whose fault it was they didnt 4 peat???

Sorry, the stats dont matter as Detroit essentially let Shaq get his, what mattered was the overall game, and how Shaq factored into that. If you want to look at stats, you have to look at each series and take the entire average. You cant take his average against a 6'9 player while ignoring how that 6'9 player literally took his heart and dunked on him when the game was in the balance. And let's not get this twisted. I saw Kobe ignore Shaq in the post and hurl 1 on 3 jumpshots killing any runs that the Lakers could have made. I saw Rip Hamilton have more offensive rebounds then Shaq due to Kobe not boxing him out, so let's not label anyone that criticizes Shaq as a Kobe lover. The bottom line remains, and I'd love it if someone could respond to this. Is it okay for a player to get fat, demand over half the salary cap, demand a trade, and then get into shape? If you all agree with that, then let's just agree to disagree. I think it's Shaq's biggest sin, and will stain his legacy.

Shaq-Diesel isn’t the only Eastern Conference big man droppin’ .lbs this summer. Eddy Curry has reportedly shaved mad weight, going from 320 bills to somewhere in the 285-pound area – in about a month. Dude’s a new man. The Chicago Sun-Times says that Curry has shaved his cornrows, given himself a new nickname - “E-City” – and has been working his *** off with supertrainer Tim Grover.
