The money isn't great, im no cap expert but I read this is basically he equivalent of the deal we gave RoLo last year with the cap raise. Noah if he's healthy is probably a better fit for passing and defense reasons, and he's a New Yorker so he's going to leave blood on the floor if need be. His attitude is going to be loved by Knicks fans. We need that fire, Melo is cool, D Rose is cool, we need a guy yelling in dudes faces.
Personally speaking, I wouldn't let factors like #grit and coachspeak expressions like "Leave blood on the floor" play any role at all as far as contract negotiations go.

That'd go for any player. I'd flip my **** if I seen the Nets out here paying 8 figures for that, lol.

Like I said, I'm no cap expert and it's not my money. I'll have to judge based on the final figure (there were rumors last year we signed Afflalo for like 13 and I think we did for 8) and compare it to others around the league, but I think the blood on the floor thing is more of a personal preference. I don't think he should get money for it, just saying if we're signing a guy I want him to want to be there, the Knicks have a history of handing money to guys that don't give a ****.

It also depends on the length. If Phil inflates the number so he can get him to sign to a 1+1 then the figure is irrelevant to me.

Nothing to do with free agency but man, the Oklahoma GM must think Masai Ujiri fell off a turnip truck. This is what they asked for in exchange for Sege Ibaka.:

Sportsnet's Michael Grange reports that the Thunder wanted Cory Joseph, Patrick Patterson, Norman Powell, and the No. 9 selection in the 2016 NBA Draft in exchange for the Congo-born rim protector.

I think that Oladipo and Ilyasova are better fits in OKC than Joseph, Patterson and Powell so I'm sure that Presti is glad they turned it down.

I'm guessing no trades since teams have more cap money already.

Woj will be doing a live show starting at 11:30pm. Maybe he's expecting something

To be fair, looking at Orlando's deal, can't blame them for trying to rob a team even more. It's like a kid who knows they can steal candy from a store, and still tries seeing if there's ways to get more.

In related Raptors news, sounds like a deal for Noel is still possible. It hinges on if Biyombo returns. Part of me hopes Noel deal happens instead now. If they could get Noel/Patterson being PF, while JV and JP are the C, it'd be a fairly solid frontcourt. Much better than option of Patterson starting,JP being backup C/PF and Bebe here too.

Noel at PF on a team where he's the 5th option on offense, could help him out. Only negative is they he doesn't space out the floor, but if Carroll can start hitting 3s more consistently, then problem solved. But Noel is a great defender, which is what Casey obviously loves. Patterson is good on offense, weakness is D, so they'd compliment each other nicely at PF, and late game situation could swap offense for defense.

The Terrence Ross for Noel trade rumor is still sizzling on the burner. Something tells me we're going to see some permutation of that trade before the end of the summer.

But...but..Kanter is young and a great offensive player. He moves his feet defensively.

Anyway...I have no problem with paying Noah $18M. And I'm not justifying it. I just don't care. If healthy, he'll defend, board and prevent Porzingis from logging significant minutes at Center.

Pay him and shut up. The Knicks suck and we can't be choosers at this point.

Not you Vni. Just the going theme was the Adams/Kanter front court was something special. So special that they're still trying to upgrade their front court even though they drafted Sabonis?
