Looks like my man Dirk is going down with the sinking ship. Loyal to a fault. I can appreciate that but he deserved better.

If you're not going to trade the assets for RWB then who are you gonna trade it for? Anthony Davis, Prime Shaq lol? I guess I don't understand what y'all are waiting to acquire.

He's on his last year of his contract. You'd hate to trade away assets for a one year rental. That's the only thing.

IMO, he would be crushed more than any player ever. There might be like 6 people that try to rationalize it, but everyone else would all over him. He would probably inspire like 20 new "failure" memes.

I don't even feel sorry for him now. He did everything he could for that team, he got them a title and Cuban proceeded to **** him over every year after that and he let him. Took all these pay cuts and got nothing to show for it now. At least he going out getting paid I guess. He needed Kevin Garnett to call him up and tell him what's up.

My only alternative to GS was Boston. I think if they sell it right, they had a good team minus one major piece, you can be basketball royalty, they'll treat you like Bird, you and Tom can get your balls down to the right PSI, etc. But if it wasn't them, why would he choose Texas and a team that won 67 games over Cali and a team that won 73?

I really thought in my heart he was going back to OKC for a 1+1 but if he went to Boston that would have made a ton of sense if he wanted to be "The Man" and the toast of a city ala Brady and Bird and Big Papi.

I would have enjoyed watching him try to make a new legacy as a Celtic with a bunch of young talent in a great basketball town in The Garden. And I am not a Celtic fan at all in any way shape or form (before the Heat was a team in 1988). I was a an old school Lakers fan Ala Magic, Kareem and Worthy). I grew up watching the Bird/Magic/Isiah/Miller/Jordan rivalry. What a time for the NBA those mid 80's and very early 90's were.

Anyway. This decision in my mind is boring and such an easy street. But hey it's his choice and he has every right to do what ever he wants just like we have every right to state an opinion of it.

Yeah it's weak sauce. His decision in the anal's of fierce competition is absolute weak sauce. Obvious he is chasing a ring and having the balls to jump ship from a city who immortalizes you and where you laid down community in roads and roots is weak sauce in my eyes. I feel for all those kids who looked up to Durant as a sports hero. It's the kids who are the real losers in all of this. And it happens across all sports all the time. But rivalries are becoming a thing of the past and it is sad to watch.

The great story would have been he went back to OKC and finished the job with his now former teammates. It was a kick in the balls to those guys too. Westbrook must have been like "WTF" you don't believe we can do this? Granted they choked away a 3-1 lead (and KD needs to look in the mirror as he was a big part of that choke job.

I am an NBA fan....but I only love one team. My Heat. So with that....

              **** The Warriors!!!!

You get his bird rights and a year to make your sales pitch. You wait till next summer and you get 3 hours in the Hamptons with Jerry Buss and Pat Riley in the lobby. It's not perfect but you have to give something to get something. You can't play the margins forever.

The discussion is fans saying he should stay loyal. And I'm explaining why that's ludicrous. Someone said the front office in OKC did great and a player couldn't ask for more.

A player can ask for more. Durant did. He met with Golden State. He's getting more.

OKC management failed him at their task. Durant played poorly here and there but it was clear that unless he scored 30+ a game in the post season he was not beating better built teams.

Stars want to be stars. Stars want to win. But nobody wants to go at it alone or feel alone.

We still don't know if Durant even wanted to play with Westbrook. That's the part being left out here too.

Anyway, I don't absolve Durant. But fans saying he's soft and unloyal completely miss the point of free agency and putting in work for a team for nearly a decade.

Durant was already loyal. Too damn loyal. It got him zero rings.
I don't think many here are saying Durant should've stayed out of loyalty. I think most know by now that's misguided.

Where the majority of criticism comes is from the fact that he left a contender to join a team that delivered him a crushing yet narrow defeat. Whether you think that's not soft or you think the criticsm is misguided...it's terrible optics.

As far as him having to score 30 or elevate his game, you can say the same thing about Lebron, Curry, Kobe, Dirk, a young Duncan, Shaq, MJ, or every other single offensive superstar on the biggest stage. The fact of the matter was that the management that "failed him" put him right there in a position to win and they didn't get it done. You can't have it both ways. Don't put all the blame on management for the team not getting it done. Did the OKC organization make some mistakes? Sure, letting Harden go was egregious in hindsight (even though I was in the NBA forum posting regularly then defending Harden when he was getting blasted for his 2012 Finals performance). Keeping Coach Brooks for so long was definitely a mistake but at the end of the day Durant and Westbrook were right there on the cusp down the stretch as well.

I personally don't blame Durant for leaving a good situation for a better one, but this is competition. We like to see competitors overcome obstacles and succeed especially when they are so close.
"Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."

WB and Oladipo are gonna bring home the trophy and make Durant look like a fool. Lol. That'd be amazing though.

Signing Bricks to a max contract automatically disqualifies them from 'recover well' status or any type of 'solid' or 'decent' offseason status update. At best they get to be no comment status based on that lol

Who do the Celtics have that's equal to Buss or Riley since that's who we're talking about?

Bird Rights don't mean **** because as we've seen, players aren't afraid to bypass that extra year to go to a city they want to be in.

I have a feeling we won't be making fun of that Bricks contract when the next round of dudes are looking to get paid. Allen Crabbe is looking at 16 mil a year possibly.

Next year is gonna be wild.

Westbrook just riding out the year until he goes somewhere else. Homey just gonna gun for averaging a triple double.

Nah seriously we should all start hoping that all the players on our teams start texting and messaging these upcoming free agents as well. I guess it ain't Bron, Wade, and Bosh levels of planning but damn son, them Warriors boys smart. I ain't even mad.

Im just waiting for Harden to text Westbrook like "hey bighead" lol.
