Craziest nba off-season ever. Still waiting to see where Melo ends up.

I just don't see how the Cavs improved or maybe it's that I'm just not that high on IT and how he fits into the Cavs system.

Kyrie was playing on another planet just to keep the Cavs in the GSWs series. I don't think IT scares opposing players as much despite his stats.

I'm not sold on the Nets 1st rounder because what you expect come the lottery rarely happens. The Nets are still probably the worst team in the league but there's too much uncertainty around where the pick will land as of today.

I think Koby Altman just won Executive of the Year. He traded a player who didn't want to be there, who publicly announced his want to be traded, and who wanted to be "the man" on his own squad to a rival team for Thomas (best little man in the game on an expiring deal), Crowder (one of the best value contracts in the league and a super-solid glue-guy player), Zizic (young center with upside and solid potential) AND the 2018 Nets 1st rounder ... unprotected?!

Irving is now on a rival squad, true, but he's got two years left on his deal and is clearly not going to be "the man" on Boston (because Boston has Gordon Hayward, Al Horford, and young wings Brown and Tatum) ... Irving didn't get what he wanted and is a threat to walk once his contract ends.

I barely see the logic here for Ainge. I get Irving is an upgrade on Thomas (by single-digit degrees, IMO), but the haul you gave up for him is too much.
          Any comments are welcome.

They're better because this is their insurance policy. Kyrie didn't want to be there any more and didn't want to play with LeBron so there was no way to keep him on that squad and hope to succeed that way. Even the Lakers couldn't make that work with Kobe and Shaq an infinitely better duo. Doing this sets them up for life after LeBron if he bails and smooths them right into a rebuild. If he leaves, you can let IT walk and clear both Bron and Thomas off your books and have a potential top 3 pick in what's supposed to be another really good draft class.

If Bron stays and IT still wants the max, you can let him walk, clear the cap space and still have a potential top 3 pick in a really good draft class to either draft to pair with LeBron (who at that point will obviously be enticed by that prospect) or have the pick to dangle on draft night or sooner for a guy that LeBron will want to have there. It's really a win/win for the Cavs.

Cavs just finessed their way into a likely top 5 pick

What if they don't sign IT and Bron leaves though?

Well if the Nets are a high lottery team, which unless Dlo explodes, they probably will be, that's a top 5 pick in a loaded draft. Bagley, Doncic, Porter, Duval, Bamba, Ayton, Sexton. Those guys could all be stars.

Boston just traded for an under 25 point guard that is rumored to want to stay. With Hayward, Tatum, Brown, whomever else that's young I forgot, that's a solid future.

Reality is it's Nets pick for Irving. Everyone else is a salary match. Yes, even free agent IT with a hip injury.

(I like IT, but there is no comparable value in an almost 30 year old point guard and an under 25 one with more years of success. One is near his decline. The other is still developing)
