You hit it.
I think the biggest difference is more players can hit the defended three, AND not just hit it from the line, but hit it from steps behind it.
Not everyone is going Curry 35 feet out, but being able to go 25-28 feet is something you're seeing from forwards now. And you can't defend it, yet.
Ryan Anderson takes deep threes. Gordon does too. They can spread the floor so wide.
Teams now set picks at the 3 point line and don't care if a help defender shows. Ball handler will just launch from 25 feet out. It's all good.
That Spurs set with the center taking the pass at mid court is now done by nearly all playoff teams. I remember when that was not even an option until the top of the key.
Defenses simply can't keep up. The only solution is longer arms.
I know we are in a guards league now, but in 15 years, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a big man league again. But it will be big men that not only can hit the three, but can move and defend all positions. We already see some of it now, but as teams start loading up on it, the Green's, Giannis's of the world will simply be like the Miller's and Allen's of the world were to this evolution of the game.
Edit. Sorry, realizing we are in the WC thread.
It does relate to Houston and Spurs. I'm interested in seeing what Pop does.
Last year I predicted Pop was losing on purpose to the Thunder. But that, uh was proven false.
So who knows! Once the Spurs figure it out, it's impossible to beat them. But they have to figure it out first. And unless Pop starts playing Simmons and others, I don't know if it's going to happen this time.
