We trade a horrible defender for an equaly horrible defender? But SAR's offensive game is real nice.Post up,hit the 18-20 footer. He'll create matchup problems...And actually i doubt he's D will be as bad as VC's...

at least if we get NVE i'll say it was a solid trade, cause Milt Polacio cannot play backup point...

DA plays good D so getting him wouldn't be bad...I just wish Dale Davis was still in Portland.I'd love to have him with the Raps now..

anyway, tonight sonics vs Raptors, prolly the last time we'll see VC playing at home...

A guy on the realgm raptors board made an interesting post...

For those who are interested, our committed salaries for next year WITHOUT VINCE AND JALEN is just a hair over $27 million. If we trade for SAR and NVE, we have

        Alston / ?
        ? / Alvin
        MoPete / Murray
        Bosh / Bonner / Sow
        Woods / Araujo

at $27M, so roughly $18M to fill holes.

If we still have DA on the books, our salary is $35M, andwe look like this:

        Alston / ?
        ? / Anderson / Alvin
        MoPete / Murray
        Bosh / Bonner / Sow
        Woods / Araujo

with roughly $10M to fill holes.

Andersno is NOT worht the $8M difference.

Plain and simple, if Babs accepts the DA deal, he jumped the gun.
If that we're the case then i'd prefer DA not be apart of the deal.Especially if we want to be players in free agency, even if next year's class is weak.

            This is Bosh's team now.

            Vince is history IMO.

Here's another source to this rumour. I like it.

                hmm that is interesting.

I don't think the Raptors will be huge players next summer as the FA list looks weak. I would prefer to keep DA as he can play solid D and the Raps can go for more role type of players. Remember Detroit didn't have major offensive stars last season. The Raptors will be a true contender in 3 yrs IMO.

did u just say D.A. plays solid D???? LOL, dont ever say that without laughing afterwards. whoever hes guarding will be sure to drop 25+

and anyways, why all the talk about the RAPTORS side of this, imagine a re-motivated Vince Carter, plus a solid player who can plat multiple positions in J.Rose... wow, the Blazers would still have D-Miles or Rose and D.A. on the bench to give them nice depth.

                    PG-Stoudamire, SG-Carter, SF-Miles or Rose?, PF-Randolph, C-Ratliff

Trust me VC will play hard for about 10 games and then go back to his old ways. He's like that with the Raps every year except this year when we didn't even get 10 games out of him. He's such a liability on defense and is so fragile that a year from now the Blazers will try to shop him around. As for Rose paying someone 14 Million to be on the bench is a high price to pay. If he doesn't start he'll be a major disruption for the team. The worst part is the Blazers will be stuck with both for 3 years. That's why the Raps are so desperate to get rid of both as fast as they can. Vince was shopped all summer and no team wanted a part of him. TMac was traded within days of being available. That should tell you something. Anyway you can get rid of Rose is highway robbery for the Raps. That's why they want to include him in the deal so badly. I don't know what Portland is thinking but thank you Blazers.

The players the Raps are getting are not exactly prize possesions but the Raps want to clear payroll. I don't see any upside for the Blazers having the those 2 clowns stuck on their payroll for several years.

Rob needs to pull the trigger IMO...The more teams see Vince, the more teams are gonna low ball him. This isn't a bad deal...I just wish we'd get a real big man,not Stepania.

Re: Carter is going to Portland for Abdur-Rahim?

Yeah this deal has to be done today. Having Carter play tonite is taking too much of a chance that he might get hurt, with him it's a real concern. It would be nice to get a serviceable big man but it just shows you how badly VC is rated in the league. It's come down to trading him for cap space but well worth it as there is no hope with the Raps until he and Rose are gone mainly so they don't become a bad influence for Bosh.

That's why Babcock is holding out for Van Exel as he only has a club option for next year so they don't have to pick it up taking both Shareef and Nick off the books. If Babcock does not want DA for that very reason. He's tied up for a couple of years.

Even if there are great free agents available in 2005 the way Mitchell's system works is they don't rely on one player to score 25 points. Look at Utah and Detroit as perfect examples of that being successful. The Raps have played well despite Carter so if they could sign some solid role players in 2005 and still have cap room for 2006 where there is something better available then the future looks alot brighter than it does now.
