Some of you people are so hypocritical about Artest

He was perhaps the calmest person last night. The way Wallace pushed Artest, if Artest wasn't 250lbs, he would've gone flying. I mean if Wallace pushed Reggie Miller like that, he would gotten hurt bad. That wasnt just a regular push, that was like a punch push almost right in the throat.

All these Artest basher need to look at the fact that he walked off. And he CALMLY went over to the scorers table and laid down. So what? Alot of you think its "OK" for other players to go sit down on the scorers table. Then Wallace came back at him again, threw a towel at him, and Artest laid back down AGAIN.

In street ball if someone pushes you down, and then throws a towel at you, and you don't do anything, you better not come back to that court anymore. So Artest took all this and then an idiotic fan who has no business in the melee throws beer and hits him with a cup. What if thre had been something else in that cup other than a beverage? What do you expect him to do after all this? The fan came into Artest world first. Not the other way around.

You people who sit here and say you wouldn't do anything if someone threw a cup of beer in your face are full of it. You're saying if someone did that to you in front of your wife and kid, and all you do is hold your head down in shame while beer is all over you. As I said in another post, that is assault, and you better start swinging.

stoncold, he went after the wrong guy in the stands. Why can you not get that into your head?

Oh yeah, I'm sure Stern is going to condone players beating up fans for any provocation. That is not very realistic.

He eventually got the right guy, though. The dude in the white hat tried to grab him from behind and punch him, but Artest turned around and got a shot in on him.

He still crossed the line, you can not assault fans at will. You guys need to realize that Stern is not going to look at this from only a fan or player pespective.

How do you know that? I've watched the incident dozens of times and I dont see who threw the cup. Its possible he might've gotten the wrong guy, BUT the guy he wetn after was with those other guys. I think he got the right guy though. Because he immediatly went after that guy, there were other people he could've hit first.

Ron wasnt directly looking at the guy when he threw the bottle, but Stephen Jackson saw him, as he was standing right at Artests head and looking that direction at the very moment he threw it.

Now the guy in the hat tried to push Artest toward the other guy then grabbed Artest from behind, then took a couple of shots at him before Artest turned around and got him.

But you had better believe the players union will be on his back though.

This is not "streetball", it's professional men playing in an arena filled with thousands of people and security personnel meant to weed out unruly fans. There is no excuse for a situation devolving into a free-for-all at the slightest provocation(and this also applies to the fans who tried to jump in and contribute to the melee).

You know what, if someone threw a beer at my face, even with my wife and kids there, I would walk away, and perhaps have even MORE reason to do so. Why would I want to set an example for my kid where I can't control more emotions and rabidly chase after someone who, after all is said and done, simply poured a little beer at me? Moreover, why would I risk a fine or suspension, the many thousands of which I would lose as a result could pay for my kids college education or some other family-related concern? All in an empty show of "being a man" of holding up to some standard of aggressiveness or maintaining respect? Please, the only ones who worry about that have nothing else to point to in their lives that brings them respect. Now, granted, if someone came up to me and put my wife and kids in danger of direct physical harm/injury, okay, I would react violently. However, in this case, it was just a beer. Artest and Jackson are the ones who escalated the violence. And besides, how much "respect" can you get from beating up a man roughly 1ft shorter than you giving up(what looks to be) more than 50 pounds? I think it's sad how many people think "being a man" is measured by resorting to physical violence whenever the so-called "opportunity" presents itself.
