The Hawks and Kings are the only team that could take him back with just about all cap space without sending a player back (or atleast very little salary). I would assume one 1st round pick isn't going to be enough for either team to use their cap space since they are only two teams in the league capable of eating bad contracts.

I still think your looking at something like this

Hawks get Melo, 1st round round pick (hawks cut melo pick up a future 1st and save long term $)

Thunder get Bazemore or Schroder or Plumlee (get a useful player and save $)

Man, that 2021 pick that Philly got in the Bridges-Zhaire Smith swap is looking pretty sweet. I think they got the better player in the deal too lol

              Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread

OKC is in such a surreal situation. Stretching Melo is so unappealing; seeing his $9.3m (or whatever the exact number is) on the books for the next three damn years is gross. Taking on players in a trade ain't much better but at least you're still getting some value from the players you take back. They're in cap hell for the foreseeable future anyway, this may be the last chance to improve their team besides using cap exceptions.

I'm thinking back: has the stretch provision used on a player with a big contract? I'm drawing a blank but maybe I'm missing someone obvious. All I recall are the amnesties 6-7 years ago.

I don't see Melo agreeing to a buyout; he's not accepting a penny less than he's owed. I don't see OKC trading him either. All that leaves is the stretch provision or the owners biting the bullet on that massive tax bill. Woof...

He already agreed to any trade that involves him being waived afterward.

                  Is that real?

Was just thinking about how I miss that old classic Lakers uni look. This is a nice mix of that with some modern additions.

                  I approve.

We used the stretch on Deron, ehh. $5.5 Mil thru 2020 and was bought out for $27.5 Mil back in 2015.

Still owe him for another 2-3 years but we can also afford to eat the cost.

I love the classic, basic uniforms of the 80s through the early 90s so I'm all about those new Laker uniforms; even if it's a minor tweak I think it's an improvement.
