Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
Lets be real here. Rivers is an upgrade over anyone the wiz had playing the 1 or 2 off the bench last year and gortat was going to be traded anyways.
I have a strong feeling they have another move planned because a team trying to win playoff games isn't going to ride it out with mahinmi and jason smith as their centers.
Don't know what their cap situation is, but there are guys like alex len, kyle o'quinn, maybe kanter, baynes, etc likely out there as FA's.Comment

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
It was a one for one trade where we gave them a starter for a rotation guy, and in the process saved a whopping $1.4M in luxury tax.
Taken on its own its not that good of a deal, unless the locker room friction was truly that bad. Hopefully, and more likely, is that the Wizards made this deal with an eye on subsequent moves because as Turty pointed out, the Wizards frontcourt is looking like D league material right now.
(But on the topic of future moves, they are strapped for cash and aside from the trio of Wall, Beal, and Porter, they don't have many trade assets. Wonder if Porter is on the block? I think ultimately he will get traded, but didn't expect it to be this offseason)

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
Sure, Gortat was a starter, but more often than not he was on the bench at the end of games. His internal "problems" were well documented and his play has been on a steady (dramatic last year) decline.
All this does is put pressure on Grunfield to land a suitable replacement. No matter how much Mahinmi improved last year he doesn't need more minutes or a starting spot.
I'll wait and see how this pans out, but right now I'm glad to see Gortat gone since I've been banging that drum for the past two seasons.

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
Yeah they definitely needed some backcourt depth, but I don't think the package with the pick was to simply bribe someone into taking Gortat; I think it was more of a move to try to improve the team. Gortat's contract is not that bad, and it expires after this season anyway.

I mean defending a trade because the guy was going to get traded anyway doesn't make much sense lol.

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
I already mentioned Noel as someone they can take a look at, but considering their reasoning for passing on Robert Williams, it’ll look hypocritical of them(not that they or any team will care)for them to go after Noel.#RespectTheCultureComment

Celtics, Cavs, Clippers, Sixers have trade offers in for Kawhi
Kind of hope the cavs get him if the celtics have to give up brown/tatum/hayward/smart.Comment

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
I dont either unless they give up love sexton and nance which cleveland would be stupid to do
Someone who has usually always had good info for the celtics tweeted that the c's offer doesnt include jaylen/tatum/irving as of now.
as long as he doesnt end up with the kings cuz im gonna need them to get the #2 pickLast edited by turty11; 06-27-2018, 12:10 PM.Comment

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
Apparently the Lakers are working to acquire a future first round pick to flip as part of a Kawhi trade. Per Woj
I don't see the Bucks having enough to get him, not for a rental at least. Celtics unless he's agreeing to stay there should not give up one of those big pieces for him, but their Sac pick could be the most enticing asset.
@wojespn
Story includes Lakers working to acquire a future first-round pick with a willingness to accept salary dumps for 2018-19 season. Lakers could flip a pick into a potential Leonard trade, and still keep one max salary slot open for free agency.Last edited by ojandpizza; 06-27-2018, 12:59 PM.Comment

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
Id give up sac pick, rozier, morris, and any other picks the spurs wanted even for just a year for kawhi. (i do think it would require marcus smart going to the spurs to happen though).
6 guys who can go get 20 at any time? yes please.Comment
