    Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread

If i'm Masai I try to go for broke and go for "now now now". The Raptors still have some youth that can step up in a couple years but with LeBron gone and the Sixers just starting their ascendancy than this is THE time to go for broke. There's a fine line between throwing away the future and throwing in the chips while keeping some left in reserve.

This is the Raptors moment. If the Raptors can't make the Finals with LeBron out of the picture than I don't know what i'll do.

So who’s ego is going to take the backseat between LaVar, Magic and Lebron?

We know how Lebron loves to throw his little IG/Twitter subliminals during the season when things aren’t going his way(IE team struggling in January)and in Cleveland, guys kept their mouths shut because they knew better.

I don’t think either side really has “pressure” but if the Spurs don’t accept an offer now that return isn’t going to get better over time. The Lakers have LeBron for 3 years, they don’t have to worry about him leaving if they don’t land Kawhi. So the Lakers aren’t going to give them so big offer at the deadline knowing they can get him for free if they wait half a season.

Spurs biggest return would be a trade from the Lakers right now. Woj tweeted immediately after the signing that Kawhi is making it clear its Lakers still. So I don’t think any team is looking to take a big risk.

And you mean a 1 year deal like KCP just signed? I’m sure they’ll be more of them if they don’t get a big fish this offseason, I don’t believe they should feel any sort of pressure with the youth and trade chips, and cap space, on their side right now.

And maybe the Spurs don’t want to trade him. Maybe they are really stubborn enough to just wait and let him walk for nothing.

Philly is unlikely to up their offer because the thing that held them back hasn't changed -- Kawhi extending is still very much a concern. And again, put Leonard on the 76ers, they're still not dethroning the Warriors. But with LeBron moving out West? The East is open now. 76ers should not give up their many assets for what could be a one year rental that wouldn't even change much. Stay the process, at least for now. There is no longer any rush, make the Spurs lower their demands.
Because the Lakers are just the Cavs right now with better role players in a tougher conference.

Yep, though I am more confident that the Raptors can win in a hard fought 7 game series against them than I am with facing the LeBron Monster.

There is only one super team in the NBA and it is Golden State. Leonard on the Lakers doesn't change that. The "don't make your rival better" thinking has merit if we're talking about pushing the Lakers into title favorites. Spurs don't want to give LA another title. But giving them Leonard doesn't do that.

Why are the Lakers pressured to make another deal? LeBron just signed for 4 years. In LeBron years, that is a lifetime contract. They are going to sell a lot of tickets and make a lot of money. LeBron signing with the Lakers proves true that it wasn't just a basketball decision in where to sign. He is thinking about his future and his family's future. Oh and the Lakers are not the Cavaliers, they will not have to constantly bow to the king.

Lakers won the offseason already. Anything else is a bonus.

When all is said and done, what does adding Kawhi change?

Right now with LeBron are the Lakers a playoff team?
                  Can they get past GS?

                  Add Kawhi.

LeBron on the school for the deaf and blind is a playoff team, in either conference.

Not saying they would beat GS with Kawhi but we did just see Houston give them the most trouble they’ve had because of guys like Ariza and Tucker. What’s there to believe that KCP, Kawhi, LeBron couldn’t be that? And LeBron/Kawhi aren’t laying that Harden choke egg when CP3 went out either.

Lakers would be a couple pieces away from really threatening them, but we’re crazy to assume they are done making moves right now.
