One of the underrated aspects of Houstons defense against the Warriors (Klay and Steph in particular here) is their focus on defending the corner three.

They did a good job of it last year. And they are doing an even better job of taking away the corner three from those two specifically this year.

I remember in last years playoffs some ridiculous stat that was referenced during one of the Warriors playoff games that showed that Steph was damn near automatic from the corners. Seriously was like 70% or something stupid like that.

They've been taking that weapon away from them and its lead to some of Klay and Stephs struggles from deep.

That's what i was mentioning last night when I said Houston was taking away Klay's shots from the Floppy's Golden State tried to run which is designed to get him a shot in the corner. Same as I mentioned they won't even run a cross rip screen or even an elevator play to try to get the dude open a different way.

Also Steph is still in the upper 60's from that corner. I haven't seen him and Draymond play that 2 man game where he relocates after the first shot is taken from him.

It's weird every year to see Steve Kerr sit there like Phil Jackson and not throw any adjustments in the game. I know people are blaming KD but they're getting stumped them throwing him the ball near the halfcourt line and just standing there.

I didn't follow the thread during the game so I'm sure this has already been talked about, but you're right.

Every possession, I'm watching the Warriors try to pull the same couple plays to no avail. The Rockets are preventing Curry from getting open looks on off-ball screens and, I don't know what Thompson is doing or what the Warriors are trying to get him to do. He seems absolutely lost on the court.

Either the Warriors need to embrace their 30-footers that got them to this era to begin with, or Kerr needs to wake up and make some play adjustments because D'Antoni has his team prepared for the Warriors' most successful plays.

Another thing is how the Warriors haven't picked up on a defensive adjustment that might save them. While the Rockets are letting Green pass to Iguodola and give up two points by not giving up the corner, the Warriors continue to help out in the lane and allow Harden, Paul and Gordon find either each other or Tucker in the corner.

The Warriors need to stay on their man on drives. It's killing them especially when you see how close these scores are at the end of Game 3 and 4.

This game is like watching a glitch in 2k happen over and over again.

Iggy is not going to just get hot from 3, put somebody on the elbow or something lol.

I know for a fact that the warriors have so many plays and counters to them that it makes your head swim but they aren't even trying.

In that sense its almost disrepectful to HOU as if they don't even respect them enough to think they could beat them in 7. i said almost

I still think along the lines of this, same with someone like Harden.. I'm not saying completely change defensive philosophy altogether, but I would have a guy stuck to him.. I never understood, esp before KD got there, letting them inbound the ball to Curry and walk it up the court uncontested while he's blasting 30 footers like they are free-throws. I'm not saying abandon you game plan altogether, but put just enough pressure that Klay, Iggy, someone else has to bring the ball up the court and Curry has to work to get open.

It's relatively easy to run up to a guy and make them inbound the ball to someone else, Pat Beverly does it all the time. Tony Allen used to do it..

That and leaving Curry to chase rebounds.. just let someone else get the board, dude hit so many 3's that season off of offensive rebounds and broken plays where his man would be 10 foot away from him because there was a rebound he had zero chance in getting anyway on the other side of the court. Rebound Draymond, swing pass to Curry, boom wide open 3.

There was too much "let's just guard him the same way we do everyone else" meanwhile he obviously wasn't everyone else, and basically breaking all traditional thoughts of how the game is played. To me the equivalent of all that would be like a team saying let's just not send help to the lane when LeBron has the ball and treat him the same way we do every other forward.. Wouldn't fly.

You know OJ, I used to wonder too why they used to let Allen Iverson just run past them right to the rim.

Gotta give Houston's defense and gameplan some credit too though...They way they're running offense is limiting Golden States possessions and taking Klay and Steph out of sync on the other end. GSW runs their stuff harder and more efficiently than anyone but Houstons physicality and rotations have been great.

They're inviting KD to beat them like they did last year except KD isnt in his head and making them pay....

Draymond was saying last night they were lost this time last year when it was tied 2-2..(that was Houstons series to win IMO) but I think I Kerr has his team a bit more prepared this time. They know they have to come out next time and match Houstons physical play.

I'm not seeing how this pertains to adjustments I was suggesting. You wouldn't let Jordan go catch the ball in the spot he wanted without challenging him, making him run off screens, etc. You wouldn't let Shaq catch the ball on the block he wanted without trying to deny entry passes or pushing him off the block.. Same principal could have been applied there, there was no reason to let them inbound the ball to him every play when he was walking up the court into the exact shot he wanted. Granted, teams then weren't used to a guy walking up the court shooting from 30 feet without ever running an offense.. But still, after half a season worth of doing it you'd think they would realize it wasn't just a hot streak. It's like Harden now. dude doesn't even attempt to get himself open if you deny the ball from him, he's probably one of the easiest off-ball players to defend because he rarely moves, cuts, anything. But they just let him catch the ball in the back court, walk it up into one of his isos. Doesn't make sense.

Yeah we are crediting Houstons defense, but you can't credit them for GSW not using their counters.

Kerr just sitting there like Phil Jackson and not running any ATO's.

You've seen enough of their full array of offense to know its not like playcalling in NBA Live where you run a play then everything stops like the movie Frozen.
