KG is not a lot more athletic or a lot better in all categories. Duncan can face up and shoot w/just as much range as KG. Ever heard of Duncan's face up bank shot, it's unguardable. Duncan is a much better shotblocker, and if Duncan played as many minutes as KG, there rebounding totals would be very very close, but Duncan also plays on a team where he doesn't have to get every rebound. Scoring is a draw, Duncan doesn't have the ball as much as KG, doesn't mean he cannot average 25 points, he did his 2nd year, actually. And Duncan has 2 rings, and 2 MVP's, KG has 0 and 1. So off of pedigree, winning, and the fact Duncan CAN go outside and inside, whereas KG is primarily an outside player, I take Duncan.

Duncan is overrated he didnt deserve any of those mvp votes sorry to say. and how can you say the bank shot is unguardable. what makes it so unguardable its blockable.and k.g is alot more athletic then duncan, more mobile, has more handle, more speed, is more versatitle, duncan is pretty one diemsionable if u can stop his post game what's he gonna do cross you over no! duncan outside game is horrible if you defended reason he shoots so much is that no one is willing to go outside and d him. duncan is not even countries near k.g sorry to sayComment

Re: Name the top 5 players in the NBA today
Wow, I see you feel strongly that duncan is overrated. But I got to go w/logic. Duncan gets 23-24 pts, 12 rebounds every year, shoots a high %, and head to head over their careers, Duncan has slightly better numbers vs. KG. KG was totally shut down against San Antonio earlier this year. As to Duncan not deserving either MVP, there isn't one person that votes for it, it's a ton of people voting on the award, and I'm sorry to say, but you are in the minority. The majority of people picked Duncan, so it's not like there was some huge mistake. If the writers pick Nash over Lebron this yr, I'm not gonna complain and make excuses saying Nash didn't deserve it, b/c the writers follow bball close to, and that is there job. So I cannot agree with your complaint about Duncan not deserving it.
As far as KG, he's only gotten out of the 1st round once, and now that he finally got over the hump, he's back to his losing ways. Not saying KG is responsible for Minny's losing, but his team is .500, a great great player like Duncan has never been unable to turn his team into a winner. KG on the other hand hasn't shown year after year that he's a winner. I remember people saying when Robinson left that Duncan wouldn't be able to keep San Antonio a good team, but he's done it w/ease, and if not for a bs Fischer shot w/.3 left, San Antonio is in the finals.Comment

Re: Name the top 5 players in the NBA today
Duncan isnt the reason for the championships. lets be serious here. the pieces the spurs had in the first season where sequential and they play the knicks with out ewing lets be for real here. you seem to use team sucess and based it on one indivual. duncan had a robinson who was killin in the play offs. elliot was leathal from the 3pt line and kerr was also and the other championship team. had parker, kerr again hitting shots, robinson again so it wasnt like duncan was doing alot manComment

Re: Name the top 5 players in the NBA today
Again, I got to use logic here, if Duncan wasn't doing a lot, like you say, or his other teammates were largely responsible, then why did Duncan get Finals MVP BOTH times? Because he was the man behind that team. The 2nd title, Duncan literally carried D Rob and Co. to the title. And by the way, there is nothing wrong w/using team success in defining a players greatness compared to another great player. Look at MJ, he wasn't even considered the greatest ever until he won all those titles. That is what great players do, they make their TEAM better. Again, Duncan has won 2 MVP's, that wasn't a fluke, and a lot of people voted on the MVP award, so it's hard to argue his 2 mvps are a mistake when a lot of smart people sure thought he was. And my last point is, Duncan won that 2nd title, w/D Robinson an aging 37-38 yr old w/not much left, Elliot had kidney problems, T Parker was a deer in headlights w/his lack of experience, and they also didn't have Manu like he is now. Duncan CARRIED that team to the title.Comment

Re: Name the top 5 players in the NBA today
LOL...we've got some funny guys here, TMac better than Duncan...maybe 1 on 1.
Duncan's team in 2003 was what, an aging center, second year PG who choked when it mattered most, a reject swing, rookie SG, and a journeymen SF.
Seriously, just check out the rest of that star studded lineup he carried to a championsihp.
Am I reading some of this correctly? Guys like Kerr playing a role in the title takes away from Duncan? Does that logic also apply to Jordan? How about Hakeem? Magic?
A Duncan led team will never have a 2-8 playoff record...just look at the Spurs overall record after Duncan's arrival.
You play this game to win, everything else comes second...Comment

Somebody here doesn't remember TD's first title run. Duncan was Dominant (note the capital "D") and he pretty much steamrolled everyone in his path. I remember Shaq finally saying enough of this BS, I'M gonna check him. LOL..that didn't work out so hot. TD is the premier bigman in this league until someone takes it from him.Last edited by HMcCoy; 02-09-2005, 03:27 AM.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Name the top 5 players in the NBA today
NO way does Duncan OWN the best bigman title, he is probably the best player in the L, b/c he's all around, but the best big man is Shaq. I know it sounds weird to argue this way, but they're two different things. As a big man, low post, Shaq is better. He draws double and triple teams, whereas Duncan draws the occasional double. shaq also is bigger, and clogs the lane defensively, due to his size.
But I'd take Duncan OVERALL as a player, b/c A)he's younger, B) he's more versatile than Shaq, C) He has better stamina, less foul problems, and can even run the break or bring the ball up in a pinch, + he's a better foul shooter than Shaq.
But to say Duncan OWNS Shaq or clearly dominates Shaq is a lie. Check the numbers over the years, year after year. Has there been a season where Duncan had better numbers? Yes, but the same could be said for Shaq. But Duncan did have D Rob to double Shaq, and last year Shaq checked Duncan pretty well and LA came away w/a win. Shaq's numbers vs. San Antonio the last 7 years or so in the playoffs show Shaq is clearly not outplayed by Duncan, all I hear are people's opinions on the matter, but if u look at the numbers and the fact Shaq has 3 rings to Duncan's 2, it's a very close argument as to who WAS better.
But as of now, I'd take Duncan, b/c Shaq just ain't Shaq anymore, he's 33 and has slowed a LOT. Plus, Duncan, at age 29, is just in his prime, by the end of his career, he could surpass Shaq in terms of titles, and dominance.Comment
