Schroder rejected 4 year 84 mil extension offer.. no wonder they decided to include him in trade talks.

        I wouldn't pay him more than $21 mil...that's nuts!

Had he elevated his game and carried the Lakers in davis and LBJ's absence he probably could've gotten more. 25m tops. But right now he just comes off as greedy to me.

I could see why he might want just a tad more considering some other contracts out there, but those are all bad contracts too. I think 20 mil is a very good number for him, personally I assumed that's the number he wanted and the Lakers were sitting around 18 or so. Hearing he turned down 21 a year is a bit surprising to me. Lakers have his bird rights, that's 21 mil a year to play for a contender. Any team that is willing to clear space and pay him 24 or something a year likely aren't going to be teams with any shot at winning anything.

He's a solid player, but he's not bordering on being a star or anything. The 6th man role he was in last year was perfect for him and ideally where a team would want him. He wants to start, which I get, but aside from some pesky defense and ability to get to the rim he's a pretty mediocre level starter at everything else. The 18ish a year Terry Rozier gets is more in line with where I think Schroder should be.

I think he wants to wait and see options now after the trade rumors, I get that too, but if I'm the Lakers I think the best thing to do now is pay him whatever he wants just to use that money to trade for a better player this off-season. By not resigning him the Lakers won't magically have that money free to sign somebody else, they will be over the cap with or without paying him.

I guess a sign and trade would be possible still, but they now have a shot at losing Schroder, Trez, Drummond, with no money to replace any of them. They'll likely pay to keep Caruso and THT, and will have Bron, AD, Kuz, Gasol, and KCP, but I doubt they want to only have the taxpayer MLE and min contracts to fill out the rest of the roster. Would be a significant drop from having Schroder, Trez, and Drummond.

I like Schroder but I won't be upset with the front office if we lose him for nothing in the off season because he turned down this fair offer.

I don’t blame him for turning it down but I also don’t know any of the important details like how much of it is guaranteed. It’s always easy for us as fans to knock someone for not taking a contract especially when we don’t know all of a details.

Putting on my Armchair GM hat, I’d probably offer him $21 Mil but would only do 2 years instead mainly because while he’s a good player, he’s not someone I would invest more than 2-3 years in, especially on that team.

For a Big the catastrophic injuries he had are almost impossible to come back from without losing a lot.
