they should get rid of that garbage. I hate the direction the nba has turned. They've messed in a lot of categories and this dunk contest is included. But there's not a whole lot we can do about it, but watch and see what happens with the limits they've placed.

Oh well what can we do? lol

From what I'm hearing, J.R. Smith is going to destroy this Slam Dunk Contest (in a good way). He's got some crazy stuff in the bag. This is coming from AI from the sixers (Not Iverson, the rookie . . . I can't spell his name, nor do I want to try).

They need to add more than 4 people. The tweaking of the rules helped in undoing the contest.

Next year they should require 6 people to be in the dunk contest:

                  Vince Carter
                  LeBron James
                  Desond Mason
                  Kobe Bryant
                  Jason Richardson
                  Steve Francis or Dwayne Wade

                      Re: dunk contest

I was listening to an interview this week about the dunk contest and one of the sorry reasons why the big stars don't even want to participate is because the shoe companies won't let them. The companies are worried they'll get injured (I don't know how you can get a major injury performing a dunk) and everything's been done before (hm this part is true)

I still think that the dunk contest is a great thing but they should really throw out most of the rules and make it free form. Let the guys use their own creativity. We see tons of dunks and stuff of that nation from the And1 tour but no one says "oh it's all been done before".

                          Re: dunk contest

The bouncing the ball and missing is one thing that turned people sour on the contest because it was done way too often, but the tweaking the rules every single year is what pressures the dunkers to throw up some junk on the fly like that.

That suggestion by the NBA to have the dunkers perform old dunks on that wheel was the most awful implementation of an idea they ever had.

the dunk contest is a gimmick and id rather see the shooting and dribbling contests.
