    Re: 2/24 - 3/7 Games Discussion Thread

The review last night was still the weirdest thing I’ve ever watched It was one of the longest reviews I’ve ever watched.

For those that didn’t see LeBron crashes for an offensive rebound but his momentum is carrying him out of bounds. He throws the ball inbounds but it is tipped by Covington who while trying to gain control of the ball slaps it down on the baseline.

No call was made on the LeBron save, call on the floor is out on Covington. Clippers team debate challenging for a bit but ultimately do not. The Lakers call a timeout to set something up because the play clock is only like 9 seconds. During the timeout I guess the Clippers decide to challenge the call. Which is also weird because they had already decided not to. I think once a player on another team touches the ball you can’t, so if Frank waited to call a timeout as they were inbounding no challenge, but because he called it before challenge? Just a weird situation.

So the call on the floor is out on Covington, but they start reviewing whether LeBron was out before him. LeBron and Frank question whether you can even challenge the call that wasn’t made. And the refs justify it by saying anything that was part of the play.. so in theory could they review the same play but go back 3 passes ago to see if there was a foul? You get what I’m saying? Like the whole thing didn’t make sense and still doesn’t.

Regardless they took about 10 minutes to even review LeBron’s footing. (I think they said like 7 minutes and something on air) we all complain when it’s 1-2 minutes taking forever imagine sitting for longer than half a quarter lol. Ultimately they decide LeBron was out, all the angles they showed you really can’t tell with certainty so even if he was out I was pretty shocked they thought they had enough evidence to reverse the call. Especially since it wasn’t even the call that was challenged. I’ve never seen anything like that honestly. I thought to overturn a call it basically needed to be obvious, it wasn’t it took them like 10 minutes to even make a decisions.

Clippers inbound the ball and THT tries to foul but misses. Reggie for whatever reason dribbles back I guess to burn clock but then he’s getting close to an 8 second call. He gets close to THT again (who doesn’t foul) and the refs blow the whistle. Lakers challenge the call which gets reversed because there is no foul, I guess the ref was assuming they still wanted to foul idk. Clippers in bound the ball with like 1 second, they throw it backwards like idiots and Reggie thinks he can get off 2-3 dribbles to cross half court in under a second. Obviously they call the 8 second violation.

Just the absolute ugliest stretch of basketball I can remember. Whole thing was like 10 minutes in real time but probably 20 seconds of basketball. Awful to watch.

No, I’m aware. That was the year they’re little try hard team they put together that was supposed to be tanking started winning meaningless games in January and we ended up with the 7th pick.

If they got the second pick they were definitely taking Ja. They wanted him. They ended up taking Coby that year. So not a total loss, but Ja is Ja and Coby is certainly no Ja lol

DeMar is just on the heater of all heaters at this point. Dude feels automatic from mid range.

That 21 to 12 rebound gap between Adams and Vuc is how Memphis has beaten a lot of teams this year even though guys like Ja, Bane, Jackson give much more in terms of scoring and deservingly get all/most of the credit. Adams has quietly been a massive addition for them even though they lost some scoring by losing JV.

Bulls still can’t get those calls from the refs. If that’s Durant or LeBron or Harden or somebody like that, they’re getting that call that DeMar didn’t get.

Kyrie's lowkey been really good this season. Sitting here trying to figure out how Russ and Dame made that top 75 players list and he didn't. Who would you rather have, honestly?

Russ gaudy stats basically forces his inclusion on the list, but IMO none of them should be there.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Russ for top 75, I wouldn’t have picked Dame or Kyrie “yet” and saved them both for the top 100 list down the line. Either of those two feel a bit premature when some guys before their time are snubbed for their spots IMO.

At this stage in all of their careers Russ has more career points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, higher career PER, more win shares, higher VORP, more playoff points, steals, assists, rebounds, higher playoff PER, win-shares, BPM, VORP.

If you combine their career points and career points generated from assists Russ has accounted for 13,667 more points than Dame, and 20,957 more points than Kyrie. Russ had more All-NBA teams, more All-Star selections, more MVP shares, 2 scoring titles, 3 assists titles, 1 MVP, and currently a higher HOF probability% according to bball ref’s HOF algorithm.

Russ is 38 all time in career points, 92nd in rebounds, 12th in assists, 25th in steals, 30th in PER, 71st in win-shares, 35th in BPM, 31st VORP, 31st in MVP shares, 38th in career playoff points, 30th in playoff steals, 81st in playoff rebounds, 21st in playoff assists, 26th in playoff PER, 36th playoff VORP, 36th playoff BPM.

Tons of questions will always surround his decision making at times and people will have their opinion of him based on that, but for anybody who either didn’t watch him, or just doesn’t have some preconceived notion of how he should play, just looking at what he’s accomplished he’s had more like a top 40-50 career. Nobody who has done and achieved everything above should be left off of this list, whether you think he made too many poor decisions or took some extra boards from teammates or not. He’s in a room of maybe like 10 guys who could do all the things he does on the court at his peak years.

Just compared against the two of them Russ at his best is a much better rebounder, defender, and playmaker while not being nearly as far behind as a scorer as some will say. Russ’s scoring output was a slight notch above a guy like Rose, but did it for however many years instead of 1 or 1 1/2. His defense now is mehh, especially on these lower tier defensive teams like LAL, HOU, WAS, but at his peak he was a far better defender than either of them, bigger and more switchable as well, and substantially better on the defensive glass.

To me the majority of basketball fans would consider all 3 of them to be best suited as a 2nd option level player. But as a first option Russ does far more with less. He has that ability to fill holes of so many weaknesses in his teams, think KG in Minny, Bron first run in Cleveland, even if he’ll never be your ideal first option on a “great” team. Which to me gives him a boost over the other two considering none of them are really guys you expect to achieve much as a number 1..

Another thing that hurts Kyrie in being voted in this early is he’s only played 7 seasons worth of games because of all his injuries/COVID. He’s only played in the playoffs 5 times (9 games with Boston, 9with BK), most career total leaders boards he doesn’t even crack the top 100. He’s 96th in playoff points, and I think that’s the only top 100 counting list he’s on. He’s not made an All-NBA first team, he has no MVP shares.. it’s not really that he’s not a good enough player at his best it’s just that he’s not done/achieved anywhere near enough. IMO voting him in would have been a slap in the face to every player who made the list and showcased what it’s like to be a “star” for a decade. And though Kyrie is really good at his peak, it’s not like he’s Giannis or Shaq who can make the list based on 4 all-world level seasons either.
