I do think the going 3 straight part played a factor. Even though, this was his best statistical year. Out of the 3 potential MVP years, this year would have been the one he deserved it the most. Almost averaging a triple double as a center is ridiculous. The first one, Embiid didn't play enough games, the second one was him keeping Nuggets out of play-in without Murray and MPJ. But this would've been the most deserving year for Jokic.

I get the voter fatigue narrative. LeBron should've won more MVPs. I understand why some don't want to see the 3 straight MVPs, especially if you're aren't seen as the best player in the league or in the Finals. But, this would've been a valid case for getting a third straight MVP, and I wanted Embiid to win MVP. Jokic had a better season than his previous two MVP seasons.

Jokic was on his way to his 3rd MVP when Perk made those comments(early-mid March if I’m not mistaken)and then the tide turned turned real quick after that. Ain’t no way in hell you can tell me his comments didn’t have any effect on this race lol
Lot of people in the media (particularly in bigger cities) are conspicuously desperate to not be seen as what Perk described them as, so guess it's not a surprise it went down that way. Lot of guilt going on with that group of people, all I'm gonna say lol.

If this is the case, then I can see why they’re not bringing him back. Just seemed weird to go “We are not bringing you back no matter what”.
yeah that's what's weird to me, management did the opposite of being vague, they're like nope **** this guy we're done. Why do that?

This might not be the best comparison but I'm thinking of Trey Lance with the 9ers, they flat out said Purdy is the guy next year, then backtracked and said it would take significant compensation to acquire their now backup QB

why announce it? even if you feel the guy isn't apart of your future, don't tell the world

I hope that moron Perk didn't have any inflluence. To me Embiid earned it though. I would of voted for him. The combination of voter fatigue, A few really ugly losses at the end for the Nugs. Especually that loss to the Rockets.

And most importantly that monster 50 point performance by Embiid against Boston in April was fresh on the minds of voters and ultimately sealed it for Embiid.

But the guy lead the league in scoring. Which is incredible for a Center to do today. And his ppg was 9 points more then Joker. That's a huge discrepancy and it's sexier then Joker's assists. Not to mention Embiid is the superior defender. Joel deserved it imo.

I don’t think Embiid deserved it but I bet on him like the day Perk made those comments so I’m not complaining lol.

He did obviously have a great season though.

Well, the over-reactionary nature of modern sports strikes again. I know I mentioned Atkinson, but honestly there isn't an available coach better than Budenholzer.

Maybe they'll poach someone from another contender?

Seems like a move to "save face" and appease people in their fanbase that are/were ready to move on from coach Bud. Good luck with that.

At the end of the day, the Bucks don’t have many options to improve the roster so firing the coach was kind of the obvious move even if he hadn’t made some critical errors.

Still, he’s a good coach and seems like a really good dude; it won’t be easy to find an upgrade IMO.

He was KD being one shoe size smaller from losing his job in 2021; he’s a decent coach, but I think a lot of coaches could post the winning % he has with this roster. Playoff performance is what separates the best and he hasn’t cut it at all in the post-season outside of 2021.

I expect Milwaukee to get Nick Nurse…

You can boil down nearly every championship to being "lucky" or having a few play(s) breaking the champion's way.

He had done a tremendous job with a roster that while elite isn't without some obvious flaws.

I think just calling Bud "decent" does him a huge disservice, but we'll have to agree to disagree

On that note, I could see Nurse as an option in Milwaukee.

Yeah revisionist history is wild because prior to to winning that, everybody said he deserves to go and he wasn’t that good of a coach, lol. We were doing the same thing here with Frank Vogel too.

I get that a ring buys a Coach extra time(he got an extra 2 years considering he was already on the hottest seat out of any coach in the playoffs at the time)but again, when you coach the team to the best record in the league, with one of the best lineups in the league including one of the 2-3 best players in the world….but you lose to a team that had to play 2 extra games just to make the playoffs, because they couldn’t take care of that during the season and then lose in the fashion that he did….how much security should he have had? Let’s be forreal here.

I said at the time once they lost Game 5, everything outside of trading Giannis should be under consideration because there’s no way you could trot out the same thing next year like everything is sweet.
