The only thing about NBA TV rights I want changed but I doubt it ever will is having NBA Finals on TNT.

    I hate ABC/ESPNs NBA coverage.

Let the inside crew cover the finals.

I’m fine with Breen calling the Finals but the pre and post game can definitely go to TNT if it was ever possible, which I know it’s not.

With graphics like the one below, and unless you went digging yourself that’s all you would assume it was. I was just calling that out, how it’s been misrepresented online in graphics, headlines, tweets, YouTube titles, etc..

But that makes me crazy because since “Jordan was a horrible player” was actually said then that has to be the only thing he could have possibly meant.

Nah that is not what makes you crazy man. What makes you crazy in this case is you went so far down the rabbit hole of debating that you got in the weeds and don't even know what you are arguing anymore.

No one (here at least) originally took Pippen's words to mean Jordan was literally a horrible basketball player. All of us knew what Pip was getting at. King laid it out here:

But you took the position that because there is perhaps a grain of truth to what Pip said (MJ is a well known *******), that must mean Pip's words are being taken out of context.

But what we are all saying is that Pippen is taking that grain of truth and mixing it with his bitterness to create a whole damn beach out of it.

Go back and reread posts 2102 by King and your reply at post 2103. Thats where this disconnect started

My whole thing has been Scottie's credibility on this topic has already been shot so there's no amount of context you can provide to his statements to fix them up because we already know what he's on. If this was the first time to get a air out from Scottie Pippen on this topic then context away, but this is about the 57th time in 5 years.

To the actual quotes at hand, you keep saying it was misrepresented and all this other stuff and trying to provide context, but the full quote is bad regardless of how you try to spin it and in it Scottie doesn't even attempt to add any context to Michael and his game that he's assessing. In the full quote he literally says that Michael wasn't concerned about winning and was only trying to get scoring titles which is cap.

          1. The one thing we know about Michael and we've heard repeatedly in just this discussion alone in this thread is that he was an ******* to his teammates and that was largely based on his obsessive need to win at all costs.

          2. He provides zero context to the fact that the Bulls team that Michael was drafted to was terrible. Those rosters were god awful and had no business making the playoffs during those years, especially that second year when he literally played the first 3 games of the season, broke his foot and was out until March. Despite those rosters he still averaged almost 6 assists a game his rookie season and a little under 5 his third year.

          3. Michael played basically 2 years and about 15 games and a playoff series before Scottie Pippen got there. Pip assessing Michael's game before he got there he makes it seem like Michael played 5 or 6 years before he got there and turned things around.

          4. I mentioned this before but Pip continues to diminish Jordan's game in order to elevate himself. Jordan was all 1-on-1 and taking bad shots before he and Phil got there? Nothing about that defensive player of the year award he got before Phil huh? That's all he did on the court was take bad shots and go 1-on-1? Pretty simplified analysis there Pip.

You're trying to provide context to this one word in this conversation but the tenor of the whole interview (and again what Scottie has already previously said/done before this interview) already provides the context of the use of the word. In this interview he tried acting like he wasn't really apart of bullying Jerry Krause and Michael Jordan was the only reason he was out of the Hall of Fame for as long as he was. That Kobe Bryant quote in my previous post? I didn't make that up, that's what Scottie actually said back in 2020. Kobe is better than Michael and praise for him, but Michael was horrible to play with and all 1-on-1? Then what does that make Kobe's game?

I won't keep going back and forth with you cause we've typed more than enough already, but hey at least we're not arguing about LeBron this time lol

I don't think Pip's use of the word horrible was to call Michael trash or anything like that. But I think it was used for Pip to be able to elevate himself and underline the point that he and the team made Michael better. But as I was just laying out for OJ, that doesn't provide the context of how Michael made all of them better. Another thing in the interview that OJ leaves out. Scottie said that he was one of the leaders of the team and Michael's treatment of the other players didn't make any of those guys better, he basically inferred that he being a good teammate to them as one of the leaders made them better. Putting that to what he was trying to get at with the horrible thing it basically makes it a one way street where Michael didn't make any of them better, but they made Michael the player he ultimately was.

Social media is going to quote mine to find the most clickbaity thing to put in a headline. We all know this, and I don't think any of us care to have extended conversations about it.

If you look at the full context around Pippen's words, its clear he needs to go sit his bitter *** down and be quiet. Just because some fools on twitter are taking his already stupid comments out of context doesn't make his full comments any less stupid.

NBA wants the Finals on national broadcast affiliate TV, so unless CBS or NBC or Fox get it it ain't leaving ABC ever. Maybe with CBS the Inside guys could do the studio show?

                    Re: NBA Off Topic Thread

I feel like we're screwed on NBC because they're already paying all that NFL money, but they really need to jump back into NBA coverage. Hell, stop paying for garbage *** Notre Dame football if you need to.

The NBA is so concerned about ratings, part of their problem is almost ALL of the regular season is confined to cable. The NFL eats largely because the majority of the NFL happens on network TV. CBS, Fox and NBC. If you're a cord cutter or a poor family that never could afford cable all of the NFL playoffs and nearly all of the regular season is available on free TV. You'll miss the Monday Night games and Thursday Nighters (but they suck anyway) but you've got everything else you need. The NBA the whole regular season is on cable until like March or April when those Saturday night ABC games start. They need to figure out how to increase their presence on network television.

I think NBC can do it. They already made Oxygen an over the air network. Nobody gives a **** about that channel. Make that an NBA on NBC channel or something as a substation.

I wonder how bad the punishment will be.

A "ban" from the NBA? Punishment the level of an Artest/Sprewell? Arenas?

You guys seem pretty confident that the additional information uncovered and deciding to wait until after the finals means they are going to come down on him extra hard.

I'm still unconvinced personally. These comments stick out to me:
"If it had been a 12-game suspension instead of an eight-game suspension, would that have mattered?...but he's young, and I'm hoping now -- once we conclude at the end of our process what the appropriate discipline is, that it's not just about the discipline, it's about now what we, the players association, his team and he and the people around him are going to do to create better circumstances going forward."

Maybe a potential 20 game suspension alongside a "8 Simple rules for being an NBA superstar" situation.

I still wouldn't be surprised if he's given a checklist of quests, and on the completion of which his status is "reviewed." And he'll complete the quests in time for minimum time missed during the regular season.

They'll feed us something about his safety and helping him as an individual, and (correctly) point out that a suspension during the offseason doesn't serve that, so instead they want to focus on creating better circumstances going forward.

So yeah, anywhere from 0 to 20 games alongside completion of some program.
