Who’s going to pay for it and where are they going to put it at? Unless you want to move them out in the suburbs but good luck with that.

I remember when Temple was trying to get its own stadium and how much of a mess that was before it eventually got shut down.

It's privately funded and I guess Center City at Market East.

Outside of potential tax breaks, it’s privately funded. The tax breaks they’re hoping for are based off of tax breaks for the current properties on that land that expire a year or two after this arena would open.

The Temple stadium is a different situation for a couple reasons: Temple football never draws, there isn’t a spot on campus that makes sense and there is a lot of neighborhood dynamics to manage.

I’m a big fan of the current stadium setups in Philadelphia so that would be the reason why I would be against it. The current set up is easy, conducive for tailgating any sporting events and doesn’t create any parking issues for any neighborhood. It is also accessible by public transportation.

The 76ers want to get their own arena because it’s the only way they can increase the value of the franchise. When the 76ers were apart of Ed Snider/ Comcast Spectacor, they had a stake in the arena but that changed 10 to 12 years ago with the ownership change.

The location they’re proposing is right in Center City Philadelphia and a couple blocks from Chinatown. The City has wanted to get successful commercial development in that spot for a while.

They’ve wanted to successfully develop the area between Independence Hall and City Hall for a while. There was a bunch of money thrown at to rebrand it as the “Fashion District” but it’s essentially been a new coat of paint.

The proposed location does have a ton of ways to be accessed by public transit but has very limited parking. So some people see it as Josh Harris and his North Jersey group as trying to NYC’d Philadelphia and make it similar to MSG/ Barclays.

Long winded but this had a lot of layers.

            Ahh gotcha.

I imagine they must have a good relationship with the City as well to already start planning for a new stadium 7+ years out.

Dan Snyder has been trying for the last 10 years to get a new stadium in 3 different areas and still can’t get a deal done. And the “best” one he has, takes the team an hour away from where most of its fanbase resides(DC, MD)

Or even Kevin Martin, Ron Artest, and Kenny Thomas at this point.

It's Philadelphia so you can never assume such a thing haha. The current Mayor is for it but by the time the zoning ordinance comes up to be changed for this, he won't be Mayor anymore. So some of the people that may run for Mayor are against it, so we shall see.

The 76ers put their Practice Facility across the bridge in Camden because of better tax breaks, etc. So it's not inconceivable if the City eventually tries to block it that they don't try the same with the Arena.
