Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
He's the prototype of what Luka is usually looking for on offense but the defense might be rough. I don't know what options were but considering this was the last use of their assets I thought they'd get more of a sure thing but considering it's the Lakers here I'm sure all the health questions will suddenly disappear and it'll be aces for them.

I was somewhat surprised they traded the pick now rather than this offseason when they could combine the Kleber+Rui contracts. Bigger fish. Think it almost had to be a gamble on his age and long term fit with Luka.. obviously cheaper options for just the now part. Assuming Utah rejected the same offer for Kessler, would be hard to get any of those other options without Rui’s money, and Kleber couldn’t be combined with the pick.
I still wouldn’t be shocked if any of the other bigs are waived/bought out that the Lakers would dumb Wood to sign one of them.
Honestly hard for me to gauge his defense. Saw this graphic but I’m still not sure how to feel about any of his metrics stuck in that situation with the Hornets. Few games I’ve actually watched it seems he can be very hit or miss. Maybe those flashes of hit were good enough for them to take the gamble.
I saw the Lakers during this last stretch (10 games maybe) have had a top 5 defense. Be interesting to see if that rim protection looks a bit better if the rest of the defense remains solid.

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
Raptors GM said Ingram wanted to come to Toronto, so that's positive news for keeping him. I'm sure they already have an unofficial deal of a resigning because no way they're dealing a 1st, even if it's a late 1st, for a rental in a tanking season (if he walks though...that should be a fireable offense on managements part).
But also, sounds like Ingram waived his trade bonus (he was to be owed 2.1m) to go to the Raptors. Funny enough, that 2.1m gave them just enough room to make that Wiseman deal to stay under the luxury tax (which I believe was also 2.1m) while getting free money from the Pacers who paid for his buyout and then some.
Doesn't sound like a move you do as a player if you don't want to stay with the team you're being traded to and will be in contract negotiations with.
The Clippers by the sounds of it.
If he accepts a bench role on the Cavs or possibly a 3rd string guy with the Clippers, then he could be worth a shot, but not if he thinks he's playing 20+ mins a game and starting.Last edited by Majingir; 02-07-2025, 02:58 PM.Comment

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
In theory, Simmons would be a good fit back in Philly. Philly could use the size, facilitator, rebounding, and perimeter defense. But, I don’t think the situation is reconcilable and I think it’s too easy to get caught up in the idea of Ben Simmons and the reality of Simmons. Plus, Philly already has their Street Clothes player quota filled lolComment

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
Reading up on Simmons' time in Brooklyn, including the fact that he earned $1.5M per game played (nice), I was reminded that James Harden played for the Sixers. Apparently I had that part of memory erased, replaced by more important things like...I forget.Comment

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
Simmons and Harden once swapped for each other are now part of the same team.
Looking back on that deal now...
Nets got:
Simmons (waived and ended up with Clippers)
2027 1st
Curry (gone)
Drummond (gone)
2023 1st (trade tree from that has Nets with 2nds in 26,28,29)
76ers got:
Harden (76ers have 2031 2nd, 2028 1st, 2029 1st, 2029 2nd still remaining from his trade tree)
Millsap (gone)Comment

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
Wonder how awkward that'll be for a player now returning to the team that just tried to trade them.
And how does this impact a future trade since now teams know what the Hornets would've accepted for WilliamsComment
